The #1 Book!

As a very young child, I can still see my brothers and me sitting on the sofa, and my Mother reading stories from the  “Bible”  to us.  What was mesmerizing  when she was reading to us,  “Mom” changed her voice, I  could see who she was talking about,  and got so involved listening, wanted the reading  to continue  “forever”!

The  story about “Shadrach”,  “Meshach  and  Abednego” being thrown into  the  “Furnace of Fire”, and the  “King” and others looking for  the men to burn up in the fire  – see an  “Angel  of God” and the three men walking around in that furnace.  The “King” calls them to come out, because their  “God ”  proves to be the “True God”!

The other story we enjoyed  was of “Daniel”, who  was thrown  into the “Lions’  Den”, just because  someone reported  “Daniel” praying to   the “One True God”,   instead of praying to the  “King’s” idols.  Over  these many years of living, these stories and  so many  others have  become more clear with my own daily reading the  “Word”!

I feel we will ultimately learn “God’s” will to live our lives,   following  His  messages, including “Love your neighbor as yourself”   and  “Follow the Golden Rule!”

Can do! What I have to DO!

Once you have been  shot,   you  can  count on having more surgeries,  that is “If”  you  did survive?  Since,  Lee was shot so close to the “heart” and the bullet shattered, with a small piece lodged near the  “heart”  his  blood circulation  to the legs, was at a  stand still.

So, this year’s vacation was going to be a long time in  “St.Louis”.  The   Doctor that saved Lee’s   life before would be doing  more surgery.  We had to rent an apartment,  we would be here for months.   When Lee  was allowed to leave the hospital,   the Doctor told him that he could not drive  back to Florida.  We put Lee  on the plane  and his brother,  Al would meet him  at  the   Miami Airport.

This was really going to be a trip for me. I picked up a couple packages of carrots, cleaned and in a container to chew on… when I  needed to keep the eyes “Open”!   The  map  that I  had well marked the route to  follow,  so Tom could keep me on track… with shortest and best  route!

I was  now on roads that I have never seen before,  as I almost knew the way without a map, so I did  ask Tom where  he found these roads?  He said:  “It would be fun to see…   “New Orleans”!

I was way out of my   short cut “Way ”  and out of my  “Mind”!   I wanted to  be in the top of  “Florida” before stopping for the night,  for tomorrow night, I would be crawling into my own bed, only if I could  have the correct help, that I needed and expected!

Tomorrow…  I will  have the  longest  “Day  of  my  Life”  ahead! “Only hope I can do it?”      D.V.

Check – Double Check

It’s  a long  day’s drive from “Ft.Lauderdale, Florida” to  “St.Louis, Missouri”, and  every year  when we  got  back home we  would  promise  to make “Florida” a 2-day’er.

As we would be getting to the top of the  state (FL.), we would check the   road   signs for  “Motels with Pool and Restaurant”.  Now, who can go swimming after eating a full meal?  And, the “Restaurant” after driving all day,  “sitting”  and at the “Restaurant”, it’s  another long   sit  and  wait   for the food,  and more   sitting  to eat the food?  It sure was a good  thing that I was young and in good shape to  take all the  sitting!

Never thought about it at the time, but I would guess I was due a refund, for never getting to use the Pools?  For this trip, I had just purchased a new “night gown and robe”. So, as I was really tired, oft to bed I went,  so I could be  1st  one up and get the “show on the road” before  we ran into  “business traffic”.  Left my “robe” on the bed,  took shower – dressed  – packed my stuff  – loading car. Every body  loaded and on the road!

Mentally going over everything   —   could not   remember    packing    my   “new robe”?  Next   “Motel”  stop  —  NO ROBE!

Keys and Vacations

Someone made mention that they were going on a  “Vacation Trip”, and the old marbles  started  me thinking.  In the 1950s – 60s,  when we lived  in  “Florida”, and when you live in “Florida” you inherit  long lost friends,  that would like to visit and , “of course you can stay with us,” my husband Lee would be saying on the phone!

We would come to St.Louis , a week before the   “4th of July” , so we could pick up  “Fireworks”, on the way up. Where we would be staying there would be lots of kids, and my husband like to put on a  good show, for entertainment.

The preparation started with the   station wagon to the garage, so they could check everything  and change the  oil and  maybe our trip would be without problems?  Also packing  clothes and all the favorites,  all lined up at the door to go!  “A problem”,  before we even left,  no house keys to lock up?   All the years of living there and never locking the doors,  had to call a  “Locksmith”?     The “Locksmith” made several keys and the next day we were oft and  driving!

We spent two weeks in  “St.Louis”,   and now on the way back.    It’s a long drive back to “Ft.Lauderdale”,    we are tired and it  is   around 2:00AM  – NO KEYS –  my husband had to pull a glass from   the   “Jalousie ” door!    “We  Broke  In! “

You’re always with me!

This month, August,  my husband was born and this year makes 45  since   Lee  died. Days and nights are only  happy memories when it’s of you ,   I’m thinking!    You live deep down in my  “Heart”,   my brain recorded “Forever”,  my life time here.

“Soul Mate” is what I have , so many saying they are looking for , but   sometimes ,  your “Soul Mate’,   shows up with a prayer.   Being always mindful of  someone sent to you from “Heaven”,  is opening the right door  when  “Opportunity” knocks!    You light  my way when I  see the sun shine brightly, since you were full of  –  happy sun shining words for everybody!     You always  had the   “Best Words”   and  “Thoughts”,  so that all we  did together,  had a positive and happy ending!

My scrap book has the best  “Profile of You”  –  full of  mementos  of things,    places we  traveled,    cards and flowers you sent to me.  It should be called,  “Love by the Volumes”.  You said,  “You  and Me  –  Kid  –  Forever!”      So  “Forever”   it is!

So You Sew Yourself?

In the 1950’s,  when I was in  High School,  I took three  (3)  semesters of sewing,   and if I say so  myself,   was wearing the clothes  I made. Decided to make a fitted Cape (reversible) for early  “Fall” weather.   Just the quick grab and go!

This particular evening,   the “Veiled Prophet” Parade  marches through  the  St.Louis area and my Father and Mother want me to go along,   as this night we were also going to see what was going on at   “Gaslight Square”.   Just make an evening  of checking out  as many places  that you hear  “everyone”  talking about and if the entertainment  is as good as advertised?

After finding a good place to park the car, hurry to  find a good location to watch the  “Parade” go by!  Finally in a very good viewing spot,  and the evening air  is just a little  on the “brisk” side  –  I maneuver my arms inside the “Cape”,  in such a way, that the “Cape” is tight and very close and I’m warm!  It wasn’t too long and I was just about   to open  the “Cape”,  as I was now  getting too warm,   when I  heard,  “Mom that woman doesn’t have any  arms!”  I  just stood like a statue!
