Chocolate Cream Layered Dessert – Layers of Yumminess
When I was growing up, there was one dessert that thankfully, ALWAYS made it’s appearance at family reunions and gatherings. And it was this decadent Chocolate Cream Layered Dessert. It’s a real head-turner, this one! It’s retro and it’s a doozy!

That’s because anything that involves chocolate and cheesecake with the fluffy-fluff whipped cream factor, you know it’s going to be good! It’s all transformed into 4 layers of yumminess, and it is freaking amazing!
Oh and don’t forget that nutty crust! This is comfort food at it’s finest!
So next time you stress trying to figure out what to make for special events or any night of the week when you want a a little special indulgence…Put this recipe in your back pocket.
When you do that stressing thing? You can take this out of your back pocket (recipe archive) and ‘just do it’ already. Problem solved, very happy campers, every single time.

I love this elegant dessert because one recipe makes enough to serve a small crowd and you’ve probably made or had it some-time in your life at a potluck or the holidays in a 9×13 pan.
It holds up well and you can store it in the fridge and it tastes great for the next few days. That is, if there’s any left. 🙂

Recipe Notes
For the chocolate sprinkles, I use a vegetable peeler and grate my chocolate, then break up any larger pieces a little between my fingers.
I prefer to use whipping cream, so if you don’t know how to make that, just pour 1 cup of whipping cream into a bowl and beat it until you get stiff peaks. Use 1 cup in Layer 2 and the remainder whipped cream, add 1/4 cup of powdered sugar to it and beat it in and spread it on the top layer, Layer 4.
In order for me to start to “WORK” for “Southwestern Bell Telephone” – – I had to go to the “Board of Education” and get a “Worker’s Permit” as I was not as yet eighteen years old. In preparing for a “JOB” as soon as possible… I also went to Summer School – – so as the get the required “credits” needed to Graduate or at least get a diploma as soon as possible.
This is the mid 1950’s – – and there were five (5) other girls starting to work – – and with me – our group of six with one “Instructor” went and did everything together – – our day starting at eight in the morning and ending at five in the afternoon. We had one hour for LUNCH in mid day – – we also had a break in the afternoon and morning.
This is me – – on one of the days… the “Instructor” i forms us that we will have our PHOTOS taken for their files – – and so I ask if I could have this Photo of me – – as it was not good enough for their files – – and rather than throw it away – – thought I would like to take it home – – to show my MOM.
As you can see – – the setting on the camera was not set to get enough of my face – – but there is just a small amount of of a good smile – – this “WORK” included six weeks of just learning – – and each day was FUN. It was like going “back” to school – – we were given a “Steno Note Book” and pencil – – we were to write down everything that the “Instructor” told us.
In “Saint Louis” back then – – every part of the City and areas that I did not even think about – but where telephone service was – – like in North Saint Louis where I was living – – the telephone exchange name was “Evergreen” – and our telephone number was “EV1-4650” – – so knowing what the “EV” stood for – – made it easier to know where that phone number would be located in the “CITY” and also the numbers “3 and 8” were correct for that area. I still have my old book with all of the information that I needed to know – – before ever sitting at the “Switch Board” and taking a “live” call.
Today… it would not be necessary for the six weeks of training – – as most children have their own “Cell Phones” and know more about calling everywhere – – and even to foreign destinations and all without the “HELP” of an “OPERATOR” – – because way back and then – – it was “long” distance to call “Arnold, MO.” – – and we would have slips of paper for each call made – – the “TO and “FROM” numbers and the “NAME” of the called party – – for the “PERSON to PERSON” calls – – we did a lot of writing and had to be good with the numbers – – did have to figure out the “TIME and CHARGES” for those “CALLS” made from “PHONE BOOTHS” – – needed to know what a “quarter” sounded like or if it was a dime or nickle – – – – there was a lot to know then – – but “TODAY” everyone can call anywhere in the world – – and probably on their little “hand-held” CELL PHONE…everything in “one” MACHINE! ******** “Very few “Telephone Operators”… and “BELL TRAINED” … needed!”
The French national anthem, “La Marseillaise,” was composed by Capt. Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle.
“Of all the MOVIES… Of all the SONGS in a MOVIE – – this is the song… that – – I will belt out to the top of my lungs – – in hopes to be heard… around the globe!”
When you watch “CASABLANCA” the next time – – and they begin to sing this song – – stand up – – fill your lungs with as much air as possible – – and sing so that the “roof” of your home is lifted up so high – – that you can be heard on “GRAND BOULEVARD” – – I can guarantee that you will feel “20” years younger – – you will have so much “vim and vigor” — – you just might want to join the ranks of motivated people – – that are ready to HELP… “FRANCE” is her time of need… NOW!
“Powerful strength comes – – with strong motivation to defend the Land you LOVE – – and the Land of your DREAMS” – – “God Bless AMERICA” and send HELP to FRANCE!
There was the “DAY” that whatever I had written – – I was able to read it – – so … with the best “HAND-WRITING” – – as a bookkeeper – – you do need to read those figures – – for years to come!
“What age is it – – – that all of a sudden – – You try as you might – – but nothing written is understandable – – all looks like ‘Chicken’ scratch – – no one can make heads or tails – – such a waste… to write – – and the worse thing possible – – would be to even think to ask someone to read – – your notes to you – – just could be stuff – – you were hoping to keep… secret!”
This note answers the question I had – – I always thought that I was the ‘FIRST’ to say these words – – you have to learn the “RULES of the GAME – – to PLAY ” – – but – – NOW I know “ALBERT EINSTEIN” – having been older than me – – and here before me – – had to show off and say these important words – “FIRST”
Now these words… below are the words for me – – “NO LUNCH” – – “I’m on a new diet” – – “Only Five Dollars till FRIDAY” – – – – and the best part of this message… “FRIDAY… never gets here – – so just count me out… when it comes eating out” ***** “BEST DIET PLAN” ******
“Do you remember anyone – – that ever did a lot of the “eye rolling” stuff?
The rolling of the eyes … could be good exercise for the “brains” to keep them moving around up there – – and not turning to mush.
In the seventh and eighth grades we had a NUN, “Sister GILBERT” – – that would really roll those eyes up and around – – and you could just see clear white – – I often wondered if that “hurt” to roll the eyes around – – like that?? So… there were times that I would try doing … the rolling of the eyes – – to see what if anything happened – – nothing – – – – maybe if I had “rolled my eyes” around more – – – maybe I would be smarter…NOW?”
If you live long enough… everyone will be celebrating a special “DAY”… just in your ‘NICK-NAME’… honor! So if you are in AMERICA – – why not try your hand at creating some of the treats in the PHOTO below…for any occasion – – that will look good and have some nice “Jelly Beans” – – to make our “RED – WHITE and BLUE – – American Flag stand out and looking first class all the way!
Here is a “special shirt” – – just for Eleanor Faucher!
“Here is a special bag… of “JELLY BEANS” –
– and for the girl friend of mine… that you see sitting on the front lawn in the PHOTO to the right – below… Eleanor Faucher!”
In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s – – some of our classmates at the German Saint Vincent Orphanage – – decided to give ourselves a “NICK-NAME” and the “NICK-NAME” that Eleanor Faucher decided she wanted for herself… “JELLY BEAN” – – – – a “NAME” that I just could never forget – – I do not remember anyone having ever called her – – by her “NICK NAME” – – but some people like me – – just can not forget some things – – that make no sense – – I know everybody “KNOWS” someone like that!
Top Row – L to R — Donald Pfeifer …”Peanuts” – Betty Jean Musgrove… “Our Poetic Genius” – Jean Saettele… “With Dark Red Hair” – Violet Pfeifer… “A Dainty Little Miss”
Next Row – L to R — Elma Rutherford… “Our Baby-Sitter” – Elmer Bansbach… “Freckled and Blue-Eyed” – Paul Jung… “Ichibod” – Daniel Perkins… “Prince Charming”
Next Row – L to R — Mary Agnes Seidmeyer…”Our Class Artist” – Stella Maria Santoyo… “Reliable and True” – Gail Porter… “Neat and Prim” – Eleanor Faucher… “Petite and Sweet”
Last Row – Theresa Wieland… “A Rose in Bloom” – Mary Ellen McClarren… “Our Basketball Star”… aka “Mickey”
From the list above… you can find some of the names – – that a few… “select few” – – thought of … for the PHOTOS that were taken for our GRADUATES of 1952 – – and – – TODAY – – “Who remembers any of these NAMES – – any one should be called or even “IF” ever remembered by?” – – “What’s in a NAME?” – – “A ROSE stills smells like a “ROSE” – – no matter what?”
“Blessings to all the 1952 Graduates – – if you see this post… let us hear how you are doing today?” D.V.
“For as long as I can remember… This PHOTO of little “MARY ELLEN” hung on the Living Room wall – – and in those homes… that had a “Fire PLACE” – – there I was all ‘toastee warm’ – – with my big smile – – just waiting for someone to walk over – – looking at me and asking questions or just some simple ‘small talk’ to me!”
My grand-daughter, “JAIME” – – was over the other day – – and she has a cell phone that will take good PHOTOS – – so without removing the glass from this frame – – because the back side is sealed up – – ‘what a job that would have been’ – – we do see some reflections in the glass – – no matter what we tried to do.
Most “PHOTOS” that I have – – have a story – – and here is the story for this PHOTO.
There I am in the back-yard playing with some other little kids that live in the neighborhood… this is now ‘mid day’ … my DADDY pulls up into the driveway – – driving like a “maniac” as my Mother tells it – – – jumps up – out and running into the house …”Where is MARY ELLEN”” – – have to take her and real quick” – – my MOTHER points to the back yard saying that I am playing with friends. So my DAD runs out to the yard – – just grabs me… headed back to the car. “WAIT … WHAT FOR?” My Mother is asking… waiting for an answer.
“Flannery Studio” “has a “BABY CONTEST” today only… and I have to get “MARY ELLEN” there… and in a hurry!” “JUST a minute… let me clean her up and change her clothes!” “She has been playing outside and is too dirty for “PHOTOS” to be taken” … and … MOM is trying to catch up with my DAD – – but… he is just too fast – -has me under one arm – – almost like a “FOOT BALL” and into the vehicle, and off my DAD ‘flies’ – – – and if I wasn’t … NOW I am – – – just a real mess of a kid – – but, when my DAD is doing something – – “his way” – – there was no stopping him.
“So…when you look at this PHOTO – – you can see my face is a little on the dirty side – – the tie for my cap … not tied – – and where is the rest of it – – and the clothes … sure could have been clean, fancy – – maybe ribbons and bows in the hair – – maybe even some bright colors for the clothes – – to be sure that I was a little girl” – – – But… maybe these PHOTOGRAPHERS were looking for something different – – like… just plain ole Jane… come as you are – – and just let the “FACE” say something – – without all of the extras?
“Sure does look like I am talking to the “Photographer” – – – maybe even… sometimes… ME thinks me speaketh… too much!”
