“MONDAY… WASH DAY”
This is “ME” – – and must be “MONDAY” – – that is the day to do the Laundry – – and hang it out on the line.
My MOTHER had a wringer-washer – – for doing the laundry – – 1940 and 1950 area – – and that is what I had seen and did learn how to use. When we did the “wash” – – you would have to carry the basket full of wet wash – – up the basement stairs – – and hang on the clothes lines.
Years later – – when we moved back to St.Louis from Florida – – bought a new Washer and matching Dryer – – but since I was always so used to hanging the wash out side on the lines – – well – that is what I did. – – “I still do.”
I still have a brand new dryer – – but never use it – – always hang the wash on the lines – – the only time I used the “dryer” was to “fluff” the pillows – – and that is done very seldom – – so the “Dryer” is still in a brand new condition.
The only reason for mentioning this – – the other day I heard on the radio “NEWS” – – that those that do “Foster CARE” for children will be receiving less – – and a woman was complaining – – she said that she spends $30.00 to$40.00 a month for diapers for the children – – and can not do the care – – without more money from the STATE. – – I do not know what the fees are for the disposable diapers – – as I never used them.
What I do know – – is that I worked at the Restaurant we had in Florida – – and still found the time to wash the cloth diapers and hang them out on the line – – as you can see in the PHOTO – – my son, LEE with ME – -is about a year and a half – – and I always enjoyed the exercise of hanging the clothes out – – and the best part – – is the wonderful smell of fresh smelling sheets, pillow cases and all of the clothes you put so close to the body – – you and everything – – smell so good – – just makes you feel so young and good, too!
