Digging Deeper!

Several months back,  I wanted everyone to know how good the Daily Guideposts 2012 Edition was and now the 2013 Edition of Inspiration is even better!  This new edition  has an extra feature, in that each  Daily Writer  has “Digging Deeper”  a few extra verses from the Bible,  for the reader to dig  into the depth of  the message for that day.

Due to my  Macular Degeneration condition, the edition  that I order is the  large print,  and  with a magnifier , I’m in business.  Most people want to read the bible but find it too dry and too thick to read all of it?  But, with the  Daily Guideposts, I  received the help,  needed!  I start with the bible verse and read the  the extra verses and the message   and find the full meaning for  the  message –  going  to the  bible and reading  are offering so much more info  – just exploring this  way  to get the full  and  real understanding.

The “Daily Writer” is directing our path for the “Day”  with extra inspiration  – but only for the one that wants  to “dig deep” and find it!   In addition to reading  every day – I find my self reading 3 and 4 extra chapters  – and in one year you have read the entire  “Bible!”  Not everything is at first understood, but when you have read the  “Bible” cover  to cover   – it is no surprise to find the real meaning to lots of questions  – the answer is there!

It was a good time when I was a little kid,  my folks would visit friends and family any time and no one ever called in advance to make an appointment  – but when you arrived  – the coffee pot was put on and everyone had something to eat.  Pure enjoyment. Of course this was long before “TV”  and we kids were seen but not heard from?

You are  always “welcome”  to  visit at “God’s House”  –  the “Word”  – plenty of inspiring refreshments  –   for “seekers!”

Autograph Memories pg. 7

Elsie Giacomo  (02-04-49)  signed in as a “Friend” and wrote  –  “You make me giggle  –  You make me laugh  –  Just to think  –  You want my  Autograph”  and 2  good + 2  be  =  4  gotten  –  I’m sorry I just do not remember You???

Mary Wright  (sister of James Wright)  wrote about   – Be this if you can’t be that –  and the finish  –  “Be the Best  You can Be!” Like your handwriting  and your last  name.  “How  can you ever be  ‘wrong’ when You are so Wright!”

Barbara Henry (04-05-50)  ( sister of Tom Henry)  Have to give Barbara  a gold star on her report card – back then a gold star was worth 15 cents – one for calling me  “Dear Mickey”  –  and I don’t know how many more , for adding  “Love”   when signing your name, Thanks!

Margie Herlitska (Maggie Moore  – Lefty) I need to find the photo of  your  Freshman Class of Laboure High  Initiation  day  on the entrance steps to St.Vincent’s  –  it was a terrific  remembrance! Also that was a “superb” job  as a “Chronicler” in the Pageant  at the Kiel Auditorium – Opera House!

Norma  Jean Reavis wrote on the last page of the autograph book something about it being saved for the “Lover”  the heck with him – let him write on the  “Cover” Not a chance of us getting into  the idea of Lover stuff  –  the “Nuns”  had us so busy with work  and all the getting ready for the  “Pageant” learning lines and practicing dance steps for the big one day performance in  “Of Such is The Kingdom”  –  for the  “100th Anniversary of Saint Vincent’s   – June 1950.”

“Bake A Cake” – Day!

Grandma Brady, did her “baking” Saturday moorings, starting early with loaves of bread, rolls, muffins and a very large cake. Those were the days when you knew what “household work” would be done that day  – each day  of the week and every week during the year  –  same old same old routine!

“Cook Books” and related  type  of book, take up most of the shelf space  and usually at a near to reach spot where I’ll sit to read. I enjoy reading recipes as if they  are a  “who done it” type movie? There’s a secret ingredient  or  a special mix  to make this dish taste better than  you ever tasted it before!

A long lime ago I had  “sour cream”  in a cake recipe and as I remember –  I liked it! So that is what this last  Saturday was going to be  –  make a cake using  “sour cream”   or what?  All day Saturday   –  reading the ingredients   –  in cakes  of any kind?  Finally found a couple recipes  –  one that I wanted to try called for a cup of boiling water? Thought It would turn out,  “too ” soupy – a – cake? Then it just seem too late to start to bake.

Sunday will be “Bake a Cake Day”  –  and the name of the cake is called  –  “Chocolate Fleck Coffee Cake!”  Three parts – first –  mix and set aside the mixture which is the “Fleck” in the center,   then the “sour cream” part which  makes  “magic” in the cake!

A small piece with a cup of tea –  a second piece and a little more tea!  This  is the Coffee Cake  that was made   –  not to last  –  “It’s Too Good!”

Sour Cream Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake

Servings: 12-14
Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Cook Time: 40 Minutes
Total Time: 1 Hour

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups all purpose flour, spooned into measuring cup and leveled off with a knife
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (12 oz) bag semi-sweet chocolate chips, best quality such as Ghirardelli
  • Cinnamon and Confectioners’ sugar, for dusting (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and set an oven rack in the middle position. Generously grease a 10-cup Bundt pan with butter or nonstick cooking spray. (A 12-cup Bundt pan will work as well with no adjustments; it’ll just make a shorter cake.)
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar for 2 to 3 minutes, until light and fluffy (use medium speed for a stand mixer or high speed for a hand-held mixer). Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla. Add 1/3 of the dry ingredients and mix on low speed until just combined. Mix in half of the sour cream, followed by another 1/3 of the dry ingredients, until just combined. Mix in the remaining sour cream, followed by the remaining dry ingredients, scraping down the bowl as necessary and mixing until just combined. Gently mix in the chocolate chips.
  4. Scrape the batter into the prepared pan – it will come about halfway up the sides of the pan (or a little less than halfway in a 12-cup pan). Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Let the cake cool in the pan on a rack for 10 minutes, then invert onto the rack and allow to cool completely. Carefully transfer the cooled cake to a plate; dust with cinnamon first, then Confectioners’ sugar, if desired. To slice the cake, use a serrated knife and sawing motion for best results. The cake keeps well for several days stored in a cake dome or covered tightly with aluminum foil. The cake may also be frozen for up to two months.
  5. Note: If using a pan other than a Bundt, baking time may need to be increased.

“Be Careful”

It is still “January” –   how’s the  New Rules and Resolutions going?  Have you made at least “ONE?”  I know more money is spent  on “Food and Books” as the solutions to solve all problems! Everything as to what to eat and what vitamin  is good for this effect for this problem, and that’s where I am.

Here’s my  would like to fix it   –  if it is not too late?  I would like more volume to my head of hair,   and or more hair before   – a wig becomes more fashionable?  Not interested in a shampoo and  no home made mixtures of stuff,  that you were told someone had good results with  –  I already have that story to tell!   Really,  it is amazing  how fast a friend will all of a sudden,  know just what to do with someone else’s head   –   let a mixture of stuff sit on the head all day   –  or make it an all night treatment  –   where you sleep,   if you can and hoping  all your  last few  hairs you have,  –   don’t just fall out when you  unwrap this mess of stuff?

Surely, more people than  I know of are wishing to increase the amount of hair on the top of the head? Just think of the amount of money a real sharp researcher could make   “millions and  “millions“!

Just have to tell what happened to my  Grandma  Anne Brady,   at a point in  “Life”  – when the  colour starts to show more  “gray”  than a woman wants  the world to see around  “1900” and the  Saint Louis World’s Fair  being prepared for!  A good friend of “Grandma’s” who had a mixture of stuff applied  it  and when the time came to see the results –   “Grandma”   had a rainbow of colours  and a whole lot of  “orange”!  All I can say is…  “Thank God  –  nothing last   –  forever!

Are “YOU” in the Book?

When I was researching my  Grandfather, Thomas F. Brady,  and family information, the Librarian brought me  a book identifying him as a merchant, in the  North Saint Louis area. At that time, reading so  many articles of information, should have made more copies of the information, I was accumulating.  Also, one should make several folders of worthwhile info  because when moving  –  you or the movers pack info in places   –  never to be found again?  The material searched for becomes “priceless” after  the number of hours  and time involved!

The one important thing  I believe we could all do,   Today,  is to write  about our  Families, of all the interesting points – distinctive and personal,  for the future generations looking to make a match.  This  is especially true for those checking if certain qualities of life continue.

When you hear someone say, “Its all in the Genes”  –  a researcher will be able to agree  –  finding the evidence  clear and correct  –   A True Descendant!  Of course there are those WHO do not want  to be  “found out” –  even after being dead for a “Hundred Years or more  –  but if you took the time and money  while here  to build up a small empire – would you not want  the family history  to be  correct?

So if  “You”  are a  “Smart”    or  “Brady”  –  Relative   or  Friend  –  Let us get to know You?

Surprise Party!

Last night, we had a  “Surprise Birthday Party”  for Al, father of  Alyssa,  so  “Lucky”  for  both of them,    to be born on the same day!  And, we  all met  at the  Pasta House Restaurant!  The  waiter and service staff were terrific, right down to the finish, – the dessert, two scoops of ice cream and cake!

From the opening of wonderful gifts and “birthday cards with those extra special gifts”  – any one can use – at anytime – lots of oh’s and ah’s !   The time we were there,  seem as if we had a rented hall for the “occasion” –  everything was  pleasant with “stories and reminiscences” of  other  “Birthday” get  together times  and everybody taking pictures!

Today –  with everyone having the newest of   –  “cell  phones”    that do everything  –  the  taking of pictures  throughout the evening  –  really should have been a  recorded event!   Someone had  a camera that took pictures, and  the picture  would be of a  “Movie Star.”  I hate to say I’m just too old to know or recognize the names of the “Stars”  –  but with the passing of pictures around  –   I was, as well as everyone else laughing so hard – my face muscles received a real workout  as if at the “gym.”

My lungs and ribs are now refreshed  – with all the “Love Laughter” – the more anyone  laughed   –  someone  continued   with  even more laughter!      OUR CREATOR  has really blessed all of us    –   we were  rejoicing with  just too much –  Laughter!
