“Are YOU getting ready to celebrate HALLOWEEN?”

Now is the time to prepare – and make your own “outfits” from garments that you may have in the “ATTIC” – or from a costume pattern – one,  that is nice and easy – as these usually only get the  ‘one-time’ wear – but they  could  be used for the next generation – and, or  even passed on to friends!

     “Halloween Out-fits” – “I Want to WEAR…”–

This “PHOTO” is really two Photos…taken in the same room…just  close enough… for  that  healthy plant… to be a connector…so that I could place together…and now it looks like one  “TERRIFIC  PHOTO”  of my “GRAND-Daughters” dressed so cute… that I  also wish that I could dress as the little mouse on the left – – which is  “MISS  Jaime Aldrich” … and if ever again… that I could have a chance to wear a “Bride’s Gown” – –  I only wish that I could look as sweet as a our little “BRIDE” as  “MISS  Alyssa   Aldrich” – – and these are “HOME-MADE” out-fits… which are  always rated  with an “A  PLUS”  in my book!

“For  this and  the up and coming HALLOWEEN…  which will  be  next “WEDNESDAY”  –  “How would you like  these two special  and very well dressed “Halloweeners”  show up at your front door to receive a very special  treat ??”

To all of those that can remember,  that old MOVIE, “Meet Me in St. Louis” – you will see how  “Halloween” was celebrated at the turn of the CENTURY – and all of the preparation for the children – and the FUN that they all had – just for ideas!

“Sit back and enjoy!”

To see a  real live dog – -become a wonderful “DANCER” as this video shows is so wonderful and inspiring  – that I would think that more “DOG  OWNERS” would try doing some  of this “DANCING”  –  and provide more information – as to how and what all was needed to do – –  to perform something that catches the eye of everyone – – all wishing,  that they could do the same with their favorite  “man’s best friend”  the family DOG!

“Our CREATOR gave to us  HUMANS – such wonderful gifts – and watching this – just goes to show – what,  we can do – if only we take the time to work and train our best FRIEND, the DOG!”     D.V.

“Best Rice Pudding for OCTOBER”

This is the “just right” weather for a nice bowl of “Rice Pudding” – just  so nice to sit back and enjoy something made at HOME – and just exactly what will have you sitting back and reminiscing those days – – long ago when “Grandma” herself,  was making all of the treats that the FAMILY  needed –  just to know that they were all at  HOME and enjoying LIFE together – and these bowls  of  “Rice PUDDING” would always include that “secret” ingredient – – you remember – LOVE!

  • 1/2 cup Raisins (golden Or Regular)
  • 1/2 cup Bourbon Or Other Whiskey (optional)
  • 1 cup Medium Grain White Rice
  • 2 cups Water
  • 2 cups Milk (I Used 1%%)
  • 2 Tablespoons Heavy Cream
  • 1 Tablespoon Salted Butter
  • Pinch Of Salt
  • 8 ounces, fluid Sweetened Condensed Milk, More If Needed
  • Dash Of Ground Cinnamon
  • Dash Of Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 whole Egg, Beaten
  • Caramel-Pecan Sauce
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1/2 cup Packed Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Light Corn Syrup
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Pecans
  • 1 Tablespoon Bourbon Or Other Whiskey (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

***Be sure to use medium-grain rice (not long-grain.)
***Use a nonstick saucepan if you have one.

In a small bowl, combine the raisins and whiskey. Set aside for 1 hour.

In a medium saucepan or pot, combine the rice, water, milk, cream, butter, and salt. Bring it to a gentle boil, then cover the pot, reduce it to low, and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring twice during this stage. Note: The rice should be cooked, but there should still be visible creamy liquid; it should not all be absorbed. If the liquid looks like it is absorbing more quickly than this, you can cut this stage to 18-20 minutes.

Remove the pot from the stove and add the sweetened condensed milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Return to low heat for 5 minutes to finish cooking.

Remove the pot from the stove and slowly drizzle in the beaten egg, stirring constantly. Drain the raisins and stir them in. If you’d like the pudding to be a little creamier, stir in a little more sweetened condensed milk. If it’s too creamy, return to the stovetop and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes. Serve immediately in a small bowl.

***While the rice is cooking for the first stage, make the Caramel-Pecan Sauce: Combine 1/2 cup butter, brown sugar, light corn syrup, and chopped pecans. Heat up the mixture over medium-low heat, then allow to bubbly gently for 5 minutes, or until consistency is like a nice caramel sauce.. Remove from the heat and set aside.

Top each portion of rice pudding with some of the Caramel-Pecan Sauce.

“Enjoy and as the “French Chef” would add… bon appetit.”

“Give ME – Five Minutes MORE”

These words… “Give ME Five minutes more”  – are heard all day long – just about everywhere – “YOU”  find that you are doing something and someone  else, wants you to stop – drop what you are doing and come and HELP  them – or just start to do something different – and  do it – right NOW!

This song was very popular in the 1946 and years following. It just had that move to it  – move your body NOW,  and hurry up – and  the rhythm just caught on  so well,  that even “ME” an Orphan would use those words, “Give me 5   minutes   more”  –  “I’m so tired – this getting up at “5:30 a.m.”  is just too early for a little girl, like me!”  We had to be in CHURCH at “6:00 a.m.” and this was too early for me – since we did not do this at our HOME , before the Orphanage – and too hard for me to understand the meaning to all of this “early bird” stuff!

The music was good and the words were something that we were using for some reason or the other – and sometime later – I do not know when –  the words never came up for me to use – guess things finally became  so regulated – that there never was a chance for a change in the system’s  sequence – so the body just followed orders – rather than get into trouble!

Just the other day – I received a phone call – and what ever I was asked, just so fast – the words, “Give me five minutes more” and then I had to just start laughing – and had to say to the caller – “You remember that old song, don’t you?”  Their reply was – “I like the way you sang those words, do it again!” So then, I had to go into a long story about that song, and said, “I will just have to write about that old memory in time!”

It is good to remember old songs and stuff from way back when  you were once a little kid,  and the way we did things – and why things were done the way they were – and even with all that we may not have liked – we had FUN and did enjoy everything – back then – at that time!

So for the words of  “Five Minutes More” – check these out and see which you remember and or like, too!

Dear, this evening seemed to go so awfully fast
We had so much fun and now you’re home at last
I look forward to a kiss or two at the garden gate
But she gave me just a peck and insisted it was lateGive me five minutes more, only five minutes more
Let me stay, let me stay in your arms
Here am I, begging for only five minutes more
Only five minutes more of your charms

All week long I dreamed about our Saturday date
Don’t you know that Sunday morning you can sleep late?
Give me five minutes more, only five minutes more
Let me stay, let me stay in your arms

All week long I dreamed about our Saturday date
Don’t you know that Sunday morning you can sleep late?
Give me five minutes more, only five minutes more
Let me stay, let me stay in your arms

Ah, come on

and,  just a little something abut  our  one and only best  quick  eating place  in Fort Lauderdale, “Chat -‘N Nibble Restaurant”

The second restaurant  we operated was the, Chat -‘ Nibble, in the Sears-town Shopping Center. Since we were right in the middle, we were very busy for Breakfast and the Lunch-Dinner hours.  Each day there would be a Lunch Special,  a most popular item, affordable and always high quality foods. For quick service, there was the 20 stool counter, giving you full view of the  ice cream sodas , and banana splits being made.

“Ruby”, was the head Chef  – someone that everyone knew and liked. She would make up special dishes from the customer ideas, pleasing to everyone! I also liked to be one of her favorite tasters! There was another Chef, mostly available on the late to closing shift, and she excelled in the desserts. But after all of these years can not remember her name.

My Mother, always made the best Rice Pudding and Bread Pudding, since she was Irish and English, these were the  family favorites! My Grand-mother was the Best of  Best “Cooks”, and these favorite puddings from and for  our family,  were some  of my requests, to be made  for the restaurant, and of course for me to sample, on those evenings when I would stop by – just to see the workers and check on how things were going.

When you have Chefs, wanting to “Please the Boss”  –  the best way  –  would be … “Please the Wife!”  I was more likely to try something new,  that they would be trying out – to see if it would be likable  – so as to be sold – and sold out – when on the menu  – and they would want ideas  from the  customers, that like  to eat  new and different foods and would also  give an honest opinion of what was  or was not quite right about the food being tested.

Since I like “Bread Pudding” and if  “YOU the READER” – have a real good recipe that  just may be better than the above – send it to me – as I would like to try it .

Starting Now, in October  – when we like for the oven to be cooking and baking something real good,  for all of the FAMILY  – You know what I like!

Thanks  for reading and sending in your good notes of inspiration! More Blessings to you from the Almighty!   D.V.

“March Winds blow away October’s TREE Leaves”

Have you been outside on this most beautiful,  “October Saturday Morning”  – and have trouble walking – without holding on to something? The “WINDS” were blowing every “TREE leaf” off –  just as fast as she could. That “WIND” was nice and “COLD” and  right here in “RIVER CITY”  if you were out side – you did need to hold on to something – or maybe just be blown away with every tree leaf – – as that  “WIND” was blowing so strong out of the  “WEST!”

If you were “SMART”  and outside- You found for yourself a safe place to sit your self down – and just take a rest – – no sense in fighting with a strong and over-powering “WIND” – when as you can see – that sitting this one out, together  – is just so much more FUN!

Then of course, this is that time of the year, when we look forward to the colder side of living – as there is so much FUN coming up with the next HOLIDAYS – and they will naturally     bring even more “COLD” weather in and  just as fast as it can – and hopefully,  we will all be prepared!

This does look like the “correct” way to prepare oneself for the next heavier  and even “COLDER” winds –  which are just around the corner.

The color “RED” is  just the  right for these next couple of months, and a nice “red hat” looks so good on everyone – and  with a  “scarf”  for around the neck area – and also in “RED” is just  so very outstanding, if  I say so myself!

This color, “RED”  with the “GLOVES”  and hat – remind me  –  “WOW” … and  now, I  just might be guessing,  that at least “50” years ago,  and for a “CHRISTMAS”  gift from my youngest brother,  “TOMMY” and his FAMILY  – I did receive this very same set of items and also,   in the color “RED”  as a gift – and would you believe that since – these items are only worn for a  few weeks – that I still have these,  very same items – and until they are worn out – will continue to have them – for as long as they serve their purpose – of keeping me  “WARM” when I dress for the “COLD” outdoors!

“My best advice is to dress warm and to enjoy each and every wonderful day –  that our CREATOR has given to us – to  LOVE HIM and to continue to enjoy each day,  as we receive it!”   D.V.
