“More Family to remember on Memorial Day”
Here is a very old PHOTO of my husband, Lee’s, brother Al E. Aldrich. “Al” served in “AFRICA” when they were running around in those “tanks” and from what I heard, the family were surprised that he, “AL” was able to live through all of the mess of fighting, as it was being done, as”WAR” was “HELL” not many were able to live and, or even survive, all of that misery that was going on back then.
Al and his wife Thelma lived in Birmingham, Alabama for many years and operated one of the “Dobbs House Snack Bar” a very busy restaurant and were instrumental in bringing a “Dobbs Snack Bar” to Fort Lauderdale, Florida – when my husband, Lee was ready to retire, but wanted something to do and that we both could work at – and work together.
Blessings to, and for Al and Thelma as we remember them forever. D.V.

“MEMORIAL DAY – May 27, 2019 – This Year”
MEMORIAL DAY
Memorial Day, a United States Federal holiday, is observed each year on the last Monday in May. This day is in honor and remembrance of all men and woman who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Memorial Day is also a day to remember all loved ones that have passed away.
Traditionally on Memorial Day, the flag of the United States of America is raised briskly to the top of the staff then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position where it remains until noon. At noon, it is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day.
When the flag is at half-staff, the position is in remembrance of the more than one million men and women who gave their lives for their country. Raising the flag at noon signifies the nation lives, that the country is resolved not to let their sacrifice be in vain but to rise up in their honor and continue to fight for liberty and justice for all.
Memorial Day is known to mark the beginning of summer.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Attend Memorial Day services in your community. In your own way, pay tribute in remembrance of service members who have died while serving. Use #MemorialDay to post on social media.
HISTORY
Honoring the men and women who have died while serving in the military, Memorial Day has been kept in various forms in the United States since the end of the Civil War. General John Logan called for a nationwide day of remembrance on May 5, 1868. On May 30 Decoration Day was first observed.
General James Garfield spoke at Arlington National Cemetery. Generals Grant, Howard, Logan, Pane, Wool, and Hancock attended the ceremony, and volunteers decorated the graves of 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers.
Across the country, humble tributes occurred on that first Decoration Day. Just outside Fort Stevens near Washington, D.C., there was a small cemetery where 40 soldiers were buried, one of whom belonged to a widow from Northern Vermont. He was one of three sons she lost to the war. On Decoration Day, she went to the cemetery carrying 40 wreaths for 40 graves.
Someone placed a laurel wreath upon the head of a Lincoln statue at City Hall, Washington D.C.
In Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroads transported passengers to the Spring Grove Cemetery. Flags were displayed at half-mast along the routes. Floral wreaths were placed on the soldiers’ graves and speeches made. Many of the first Decoration Days recognized only the Union soldiers, though some included the Confederate soldiers as well. Over time, the day grew to include all those soldiers lost during the conflict.
Decoration Day gradually became known as Memorial Day and now honors all U.S. military personnel who have died during a military conflict. Memorial Day continued to be observed on May 30 until Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968. Since 1971, Memorial Day has been observed the last Monday of May.

“Remembering Tom McClarren on this Memorial Day”
“Do You Fear Falling?”
This is Thomas F. McClarren – 82nd Airborne Division – U.S. Army – the last of the McClarren Family that I have pictures of that did join and serve and were “LUCKY” to return home! To be a “Paratrooper” I’ll just bet, that the question you are most asked, would be, “How can you jump out of, a perfectly fine flying airplane, are you not afraid of falling and getting hurt?”
Tom is the one in our “FAMILY” that would be asking someone downstairs something, and before you could turn to answer, there he was, at the foot of the stairs? Never could figure what there was about “TOM” that caused him to fall out windows and down stairs, and never did get hurt, doing so? I’m guessing the “GOOD LORD” was saving “TOM” for the extra big jumps, of his “LIFE” – out of our “Uncle SAM’s” extra special Military “AIR-PLANES” and every day if necessary!
This “Memorial” weekend and all this coming week – let me send this Salute – to all our “ARMED FORCES” – a prayer to Almighty Yahweh – to bless and protect our young men and women – until they can return home to their “LOVED” ones – as we all want to and – forever , “Send Love to all our Loved ones, who are making great sacrifices, for the “FREEDOM for All AMERICANS” in and out of the Armed Services!” D,V.

“Remembering Denny McClarren on this Memorial Day”
Young Man in U.S. Army!
This is Denny H. McClarren Jr.,with the best shade of “red hair” and lots of “freckles!” This is the same good-looking guy, my younger brother, DENNY that you may have seen right here and with me, sharing in that extra special PHOTO, that award winning, “Million Dollar Smile” – and now, for today’s PHOTO – this is “DENNY’s” more sincere and down to business look!
Let’s remember all of our “FAMILY MEMBERS” who have served our Country – America – and never ever forget all of the great sacrifices, that they have made, just for all of us who could not serve, if only each of us now does his part just maybe “America” will always remain “Tops” in the hearts of us, all!
My brother, Denny was at the “Red Stone Arsenal” in the 1950’s. “Almighty Yahweh” thank you for your blessing on all of us, in “America” and keep all of our “Service Men and Women” safe in YOUR ARMS, where ever, they with “PRIDE” and “HONOR” may serve!” D.V.

“Celebrate MEMORIAL Day by Remembering”
“Remember All Those in Uniform”
This may have been taken in the mid 1950’s. Rossario Greco, the MP on the right – gave me this photo – some time after I had met him. I do wish that I had asked more questions and would have written more info. on the back of photos, so that, a hundred years later, someone would know who is who and what and where, some good info. to talk about, or so that, I would have an idea of something to pass on?
My wish is that we remember those that serve in all of the “Armed Forces” – so that they are never ever forgotten, and all that they did and have done over these many years, to protect AMERICA will always be remembered with much gratitude and thankfulness, for the “AMERICAN FREEDOM” that so many have paid for with their lives – giving the ultimate gift for all “AMERICANS” to enjoy with their family in this special week to celebrate with LOVE – one for another!
WE should all be thinking and planning on doing some especially good things – that we then can do, for all the men and women that have served – to make up for their sacrifices over the years, and be ready when they return home and are in need of our help! Let us and our Government give to them, all the HELP that they are in need of, immediately! D.V.
