Author: Gemma Stafford
Servings: 1 loaf

Ingredients

  • cup (8oz/225g) pumpkin puree
  • 1 1/2 cups (12oz/340g) sugar
  • 1/2 cup (4floz/115ml) vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup (2 1/2floz/71ml) milk
  • 2 eggs*
  • 1 3/4 cups (9oz/255g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • For the Glaze:
  • 1/2 cup (4oz/115g) butter
  • 1 cup (4oz/115g) powdered sugar (start with one cup and add more if the glaze is too runny)
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Instructions

Making The Pumpkin Bread

  • Mix pumpkin puree, sugar, oil, milk, and eggs in a large mixing bowl until well combined.
  • In a medium mixing bowl combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir well, then gradually pour into a large bowl of the pumpkin mixture. Stir well to combine completely.
  • Butter and line a 9×5 Non-stick Loaf Pan with parchment paper. Pour mixture evenly into loaf pan.
  • Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 55 – 65 minutes, or until done and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Making The Maple Glaze

  • As the bread cools, make your glaze. In a small saucepan or in the microwave gently melt the butter.
  • Remove the butter from the heat, allow to cool slightly then stir in the powdered sugar and maple syrup until the glaze has formed. If the glaze is too thick thin out with a little milk until you get your desired consistency.
  • Pour the glaze generously over the top of the pumpkin loaf and let it set, about 30 minutes to set. (I like to pour the glaze on while the bread is still warm in the pan).
  • Cut into slices and enjoy! Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

“A Thanksgiving Photo of our HAPPY Family”

Thanks for my “Wonderful Family!”

img064

When Thanksgiving Time comes in November… it is a very good time to give Thanks to our Creator,  for all of those wonderful gifts, He gives us to enjoy while here on Earth… no matter where we are and or what we are doing…  He is blessing us, with those gifts that we need at that designated  time … that we are receiving   graciously and using them, just as directed.

Check out in your Bible… Psalm 139.

Thank You – Almighty Yahweh” –  for putting me with  this earthly family – that You knew – that I would be very satisfied with – for all of my “LIFE” here  –  and for me to be a part of  Your Family – for all eternity!

I do not know, nor understand how all of our living… here on earth – it is a “Mystery”  – not ours to reason why – but to learn and –  to obey Your Commandments and follow Your word in the bible …

Your Manuel  – which has so many nuggets of information  – for us – if we but decide early in “LIFE” to seek You!

This picture is taken in front of the “German St. Vincent Orphan Home” in the 1940s – I am taking this picture – I feel that this is a very good picture  of “MY FAMILY” – and I have always been very proud to be a part  of the “McClarren Family!”   (L to R)   – Tom, brother – Denny, Sr.,  my Father –  Denny Jr., brother – Marie, My Mother.

“Looks like You have the Biggest Turkey”

“Did – You – get too much – TURKEY?”

T-Day 001

The day after “THANKSGIVING”  … will you be  asking yourself…  “Did we get too much Turkey … since we had to go to several homes for dinner, and we were expected to eat as if … we were really… ready for a full- course   feast???”

That’s  the way it goes each year…

Sometimes…  you are invited for a “SUNDAY Thanksgiving Dinner” … and  then on   “Thursday… Thanksgiving Day” … you are expected to be at three (3) more homes !

You have to put on  your “HAPPY”  ready to eat lots  more of “TURKEY” face…  and all the time… you are  now feeling so “STUFFED”  … “You are almost feeling like… you are turning into a “Turkey” and being stuff…

You just don’t know …  “where  in the world,  do I, or can I even put  another …  Turkey dinner???

Here’s the solution,  the month before…    YOU start doing without  “LUNCH”  and see if  you  lose a pound or two… and if you  are not losing a pound or two… try a few liquid meals!

Need to do something faster,   just eat an “APPLE” cut in very thin slices for one meal !  Next day  make  it two  apple meals… you cut-up and start  eating very thin slices of apple!

An “APPLE” a day keeps the “DOCTOR” away and you will be regular, too !!!

It will be, just  for a couple of weeks  and then,  you will start looking so good and  terrific,  that you may want to do the “APPLE” a meal thing,  even  after   “Thanksgiving”  just so you can look and really begin to feel, like that  highly active and creative  person you know you can be… but, only if you  really want???

The main idea is  to be the “LIFE” of the party at each dinner, enjoy  what you are doing,  take part in everything, everyone will love your company, and  guess what…  they will ask you,  to come back… next year!

“The name of the  – GAME  – is  to  have  “FUN” and share  all  of your past good times …with  more wonderful ideas for all  of the  guests…  hanging on to all those  future plans to have many more Happy days of celebrating Thanksgiving  in future years…

So…as  this “Thanksgiving”   will also be stored away with all of our most enjoyable days and times for sharing LOVE … one to another and as we are finishing this year,  with just one  more month to go, so…  we will be  adding  more HAPPY OCCASIONS…  to  all  of our HAPPY TIMES….  making that which… we will all call … “HAPPY MEMORIES!”     D.V.

“NATIONAL ABSURDITY DAY”

NATIONAL ABSURDITY DAY – November 20

On November 20th, National Absurdity Day reigns supreme. Oddness and weirdness take over. We’re not sure why, but it does.

Throughout history, bizarre occurrences mark the calendar.  It may seem absurd today to send your child cross country by airplane, but people do. There’s a process, attendants, an adult on the other side waiting to retrieve the precious package.

When the postal service first launched in 1913, children falling within the shipping weights were sent cross country by parcel service. Mailed babies were shipped off to Grandma’s house, some for as low as 15 cents plus insurance.

This day was created as a day to recall and note some of the entirely off the wall and ridiculous things in history, in our country, and our lives.

Absurdity Day is also a day to have fun and do crazy, zany, and absurd things. Use the day as an excuse to let out the silly antics hidden inside them. You can do things you have wanted to do that make absolutely no sense at all, and it will be okay because you will be celebrating this National Day.

HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalAbsurdityDay

Do whatever absurd things that pop into your mind. (Please keep safety in mind.) Use #NationalAbsurdityDay to post on social media.

Educators and families, it may seem absurd, but the National Day Calendar Classroom has a project perfect for celebrating even this extra-special holiday. Be sure to check it out.

“NATIONAL GRATITUDE MONTH – November”

National Gratitude Month - November

National Gratitude Month in November encourages us to embrace the power of gratitude.

Gratitude is more than simply saying “thank you.” Gratitude’s amazing powers have the ability to shift us from focusing on the negative to appreciating what is positive in our lives. Practicing daily gratitude gives us a deeper connection to ourselves, the world around us, and to our Creator.

Everything in our lives has the ability to improve when we are grateful. Research has shown that gratitude can enhance our moods, decrease stress, and drastically improve our overall level of health and wellbeing. On average, grateful people tend to have fewer stress-related illnesses and experience less depression and lowered blood pressure, they are more physically fit, they are happier, have a higher income, more satisfying personal and professional relationships, and will be better liked. Grateful kids are even more likely to get A’s in school.

If everyone practiced daily gratitude, we could change ourselves and the planet for the better.  Everyone would be much happier. Love would grow and hate would decrease. And the world would know true peace.

What are you waiting for? Give gratitude a try!  You’ll be happier you did.

HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalGratitudeMonth

Celebrating the month can be done in several ways.

  • Start a gratitude journal. Write about someone or something you’re thankful for every day. You’ll find your appreciation for those around you grows deeper and fonder the longer you keep it. When you read back on what you’ve written, you’ll be able to reflect on the relationships and their accomplishments.
  • Share your gratitude with others. Letting someone know you’re grateful for their care, service, or friendship often lifts their spirits or lifts a burden.
  • Show your appreciation by giving back to your community, neighborhood, or favorite organization.

Use #NationalGratitudeMonth to post on social media.

“NATIONAL PLAY MONOPOLY DAY”

NATIONAL PLAY MONOPOLY DAY – November 19

National Play Monopoly Day on November 19th recognizes the iconic board game that lands us on Park Place, Boardwalk or even in jail.

Known as one of the most popular board games in the world, Monopoly was originally based on a board game designed by Elizabeth Magie in 1902. Since then, the game has been played by an estimated 500 million people since 1935.

 When is National Scrabble Day?

The object of the game is to collect as many properties as you can to create a monopoly. When players land on your property, you get to collect rent. The more properties you own, the more money you make, too. But watch out, there are taxes and other fees involved. To win the game, you need to bankrupt your opponents and be the last landowner standing. Many families have house rules that make the game more interesting, too.

Monopoly also comes in numerous versions. Do you enjoy a particular book or movie franchise or hobby? The game likely comes in themes focusing on famous characters and likely scenarios. How about sports teams or pop culture? Monopoly money goes there, too!

Monopoly was  published by Parker Brothers, an American toy and game manufacturer since 1883.

HOW TO OBSERVE #PlayMonopolyDay

Put your banker cap on. Gather your family and friends together and play Monopoly. See if you can come out the winner. What are your house rules? How long do games last in your house or do they end up in turmoil? Use #PlayMonopolyDay to post on social media.

We even have more boardgame fun in 7 Stories Behind Our Favorite Games.
