“Take an Airport Tour with the Family”

“School Children take AIRPORT TOUR”

img127

School children just love to visit different places… when on their “Field Trips” with their teachers along to  explain all of the new and different things  –  in that specific place…  that they are visiting – –

As each business offers so much more  –  than some others –  and “WOW” – “WHAT  a wonderful fun day,  it is, to go and visit  the local AIRPORT!”

Each group of children get to sit on bails of hay  –  set up in the above  trailer, which is  attached to the tractor –  which is also used to care for the grounds – as in  the  Summer time,   all the grass needs to be cut –  and during the winter months … when it  will snow –   all   the run-ways need to be cleared –  so that the airplanes can take off and land – –

But NOW… it will make for a very comfortable ride and trip for the children to see and visit all the various  areas of the AIRPORT.

The children have a marvelous time getting an  up close look at … and into some airplanes –  into hangars where the airplanes are kept –  and into the school room for  and where the “Sky-Divers” learn the rules of  –  “falling out of a perfectly  good airplane” and be able to land on the ground… all without  breaking their bones!

Some of the children that made the visit to the AIRPORT –  took home for their parents – special invitations  – that their child can come back in the FALL – for a special party for the children and their parents –  since some of the pilots would be offering  FREE RIDES –  but parents had to go along – some children may or may not feel comfortable up in an airplane – and only the parents would be able to make that decision.

We also offered  Pilot Training Lessons – for those young people – as some wanted to start as soon as they could –  so as to be  doing   something that if they waited –  would be  sidetracked  – and maybe lose the opportunity to their  best dream –  and that is to  “Fly up and above the Clouds” – the best place to be!

Airport owner and manager  – Al Aldrich –  also…   driver – tour guide – with all the answers –  and daughter, ALYSSA – in his arms – learning the ropes – as  those good lessons, that you learn early – stay with you forever.

“Grandma… Grandma… Where did the BRAINS… go”

Learning how to use – “Attach!”

When you are a…  “Grandma” – learning new computer skills are way pass, the  “Dumb Dora’s,” ability!

This is one such day, for me, the  “Grandma” … when the learning just does not want to go into the right part of my BRAIN.

When…  like in my case, I have some pictures that someone would like to put in their book…  that they are writing…  and to be published soon…  had to get instructions on, “the HOW TO DO” …  and my biggest mistake was not making written notes, as I was doing  the first couple pictures.

My Instructor walked away and said “I’ll check and see if what we sent has been received?”

“Go ahead and do the next picture and send it, just like we did the first pictures.”

“Dumb Dora”…  that’s my name for myself…  when I have a task assignment to do and I feel completely out of my realm as to what to really do…  being afraid to make a mistake…  I start out as I think I remember and as I begin…  the sequence seems just a little different… and as I cancel and try to start over… I feel like I am so far into the “FORREST” of mentally  being lost… there  just has to be…  a step or two…  to do…   that I have forgotten?

When you have a picture to send on the email, and you keep going over  and getting the picture and you are looking at the email and everything you see… looks good to go…   and so you click the  “SEND” and you receive no response….  that the picture has been received?

You  now have to wonder… what the heck am I doing?

What am I forgetting to do?

Should I get up and go to the desk that is waiting for the picture and really be so “DUMB”…  so as,  to have to ask,  “Did you receive the picture, yet?”

And then, what I have to do is just tell them….  that I sent the picture several times… just  have no idea…. as to why it didn’t get where it was supposed to go?

And then… I have to say, “Would you come and show me how to do it…  all over again?”

So, we go over the sending of a picture with the email again!

I,  sitting there and doing one step after another … just as I am being told and then, the  magic word is said!

“Hit the symbol for “ATTACH” – “WOW” –

I just  had to say that word…  “ATTACH” – several times!”

That’s what I forgot to do.

Every time I went to send the email…  never gave “ATTACH” a second thought…  so no wonder no picture was  received on the other end?

So, now … dear ole “Grandma,” do not forget…  if you want someone to receive “SOMETHING”…

“You do have to give it…  and the only way you are going to give it…

“YOU do  have to ATTACH it!”

“That’s Right:   just  “HIT ATTACH!”

“Start Making Beautiful “MUSIC” for the FAMILY”

the Harmonica” … Just the other day … I found  a  “Harmonica” in one of the drawers that I was looking for something else… and just could not put it down!

Just got to thinking of all these years, that this extra special “Music Making Instrument” has been unused, and just plain ole forgotten about!

“Now is the time for me to find the ole music books, that I know we have somewhere… and start making some good old MUSIC… or just maybe someone much younger will tell me,  “I can make some real good music with that  Harmonica”… that is … if you want me too!

So NOW, with the help…  that I have printed below…I will be hearing some real good music… and I can just sing along!

“ With just a little PRACTICE” – “Listen and LOOK”

This is remarkable and should be passed on  – – for everyone to  get to – – maybe…  even  try to play the Harmonica – – at least…  for FUN!

Pass this message  on to families with children – – so that they can  have an idea  or two… – of what they can do –  If only they try!           D.V.

“NATIONAL NEAR MISS DAY”

NATIONAL NEAR MISS DAY – March 23
From a national view, each day many of us face a near miss here and there. March 23rd commemorates the day the entire Earth faced a near miss when a massive asteroid (4581 Asclepius) nearly hit us in 1989. National Near Miss Day celebrates the day 4581 Asclepius flew right on by.

On March 22-23, 1989, a mountain-sized asteroid came within 500,000 miles of colliding with the earth. “On the cosmic scale of things, that was a close call,” said Dr. Henry Holt. Geophysicists estimate that a collision with Asclepius would release energy comparable to the explosion of a 600 megaton atomic bomb. A collision would have had catastrophic effects on our planet. Scientists discovered the asteroid on March 31, 1989 – nine days after its closest approach to Earth.

There have been other near misses that have happened on an infrequent basis.

HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalNearMissDay

  • Have you ever had a near-miss? This might be the day to share the story.
  • Explore asteroids up close by visiting the NASA website
  • Share stories about near misses. Write it out or share a video.
  • Read about other near misses or not so near misses. Like the one known human to have been struck by a meteorite, Ann Hodges.
  • Watch videos about asteroids, meteors, and meteorites, like the one below.
  • Use #NationalNearMissDay to post on social media.

NATIONAL NEAR MISS DAY HISTORY

While the origin of the observance is obvious, the creator of the day is considered nearly missing from our sources. However, we suspect the person to be a stargazer of sorts.

Near Miss FAQ

Q. How often do asteroids hit the Earth?
A. Large asteroids don’t hit the Earth very often. In fact, most burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere before hitting the Earth often creating unexpected meteor showers. The last large asteroid to impact the Earth’s surface occurred millions of years ago during the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction.

Q. What type of scientist studies asteroids?
A. An astronomer studies asteroids, comets, galaxies, moons, planets, stars, and other objects in space.

“NATIONAL BAVARIAN CREPES DAY”

NATIONAL BAVARIAN CREPES DAY – March 22

Serving up a light and airy dish, March 22nd annually recognizes National Bavarian Crepes Day.

Bavarian crepes are a delicious, very thin pancake-like dessert. They are typically made from wheat flour or buckwheat flour, then filled, rolled, and then often topped with a glaze, fruit, chocolate or whipped cream. In Bavaria, crepes are called palatschinke. While similar to a French crepe, the Bavarian crepe batter doesn’t need to rest before using.

Both types of crepes lend themselves to delicious desserts and fresh breakfast settings. They even make for a light brunch with a savory touch. However, crepes shine when it comes to delivering delicate and beautiful desserts. Whether they are filled with cream, mousse, or jams, the results are almost always spectacular.

HOW TO OBSERVE #BavarianCrepesDay

  • Try your hand at making this delicate dish. It’s worth taking up the challenge.
  • While you’re at it, invite some other chefs into the kitchen, too!
  • Enjoy one of the following recipes and have a wonderful day:
  • Give a shout-out to the chef who makes the best crepes.
  • Use #BavarianCrepesDay to post on social media.

Bavarian Crepes Recipe

By Chewy

Not as difficult as you may think, you don’t need a special crepe maker to achieve the desired result. This crepe makes an impressive looking finale to your meal. Also very versatile, you can experiment with different fruits and fillings and toppings. Let your imagination take flight and let us know what you created!!
Most people say they have to throw out the first one of every batch. I used to but I don’t so much anymore. Here are some tips:

  1. Let the batter sit for 30 minutes for the gluten to relax.
  2. Be sure your pan is really hot.
  3. Spray with cooking spray.
  4. Rub a tiny bit of butter in the pan.
  5. Add the batter with a 1/4 cup measure, swirling the pan as you add it.
  6. Hold the pan over the batter bowl so that any excess runs back into the bowl.
  7. Cook until the edges curl a little and you can pull the crepe out of the pan.
  8. Either fill and roll as you take them out of the pan or lay parchment between the crepes.
  9. Once made, the crêpes can be refrigerated for several days, or frozen for up to several months.

2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons butter, melted

1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 cup almond flavored liqueur
1 cup sour cream
1 oz. semisweet chocolate, grated

1 cup sour cream
1 oz. semisweet chocolate, grated

In a medium bowl, beat eggs slightly. Add buttermilk. Beat with a whisk or with electric mixer on low speed until just blended.

Let batter stand about 1/2 hour at room temperature. If kept longer before cooking, refrigerate. Stir batter with a spoon.

Cook crepes on upside down crepe griddle or in traditional crepe or omelet pan. As each crepe is cooked, stack in a covered dish or pan to keep warm and moist.

Drain cherries, reserving 1/3 cup juice.

In a medium pan, combine powdered sugar and cornstarch. Stir in liqueur and reserved cherry juice. Add drained cherries. Stir constantly over moderate heat until slightly thickened.

TO SERVE:
Spoon onto warm cooked crepes. Fold sides over filling, envelope style. Spoon sour cream on top. Sprinkle with grated chocolate. Serve at once.

Makes 14-16 servings
