Grandma in Olden Times

As one  “Grandma”, in our family, I have to say that I have as  much  “Fun” as the  “Grand kids.” It seems a if “Magic” makes me  a “Kid” again, because when I was  a kid everything was all NEW to me and each day went by so fast, when I was having  “FUN!” And when I was not having  Fun  –  Time stood still!

So, with the grand kids , my #1 grand-daughter ask me a question that I don’t think anyone ever ask before, and I know that I never thought to ask  when I was her age? “Grandma, was everything “Black and White” , when you were a little girl?”  “Why do you ask?”   “Well, most of what you watch on “TV” is all  “Black and White”?   And all the movies  you like  are  “Black and White”, and they look like when you were in the olden times?”

You know I could have died laughing?  “Alyssa,  the reason these movies were made “Black and White”, is because  they were made during the “War” years, and to save money for the soldiers, everybody did without a lot of things that were not really necessary.  Every worker and business had to make sacrifices and any kind of material that could help our soldiers, we were all glad to do our part.

There was no “TV” and when I was old enough to work, I did my part and forgot about the movies, but today some of the old movies have a better message. If a good old movie is available and I never got a chance to see it then, I enjoy it better today, because I feel like a little kid again!
