Chat ‘N Nibble

Some evenings when I would be the “Baby-sitter”, for a short period of time, I would be prepared with fresh fruit. When children are under “7 years of age” and the parents are busy with work, it is hard to leisurely have  “food for thought”. That’s what I call having apples and oranges washed and ready!

Starting with the apples, I slice them  in thin strip slices for the small hands and fingers to hold on to and eat. As I am slicing and they are eating,  I’m telling them a story, and as they finish one piece have  another for each hand. Sometimes they have a slice of apple and an orange  slice in the  other hand. And, some one , just may have  an important story or question that we all get to listen to  and or answer with our “two cents”.

As all this is going on, they each are keeping track of who is getting more than another  all at the same time knowing what we are talking about. A keen mind is developing  with careful consideration of each sibling  remembering to be sure each receives his fair share of the pie!
