“Picnics are always FUN Days”

Last of PICNIC PHOTOS!”

SVP-4

“WELL… this is the last of the St. Vincent Home PICNIC PHOTOS… that is  of  the email…from JAIME…”   so if there are more… let’s get them sent to me  – – that is while the PICNIC …is still fresh and we can all remember…what we did and where we were???

Now that I found this PHOTO will have to add another that was taken  – just  so we can all see,  how exciting it was that  wonderful day,  to have so much FUN!

“THE FUN – that we can  have at a PICNIC!”      That does look like a nice size plate of FOOD – – but…  that was  just for show –  there was no way for me to eat all of that – in  just one sitting – – had to take it with me for later. The memory is that we all had so much FUN – – which means,  that we could  and or for sure, do it again – could be that next year  – there would be room on the calendar – for  another big  “old time”   memory –  PICNIC!

“Just want SOMEONE to LOVE FOREVER”

Sometimes, when you are listening to a piece of MUSIC – – You almost feel that the  “ONE” that you are thinking of – is thinking of you, too! It just has to be the words – that are being sung – in such a way that almost reminds you of so many wonderful things,  that you did enjoy – with the LOVE  of your LIFE –  and is right  NOW, there with you.    The  memory  bank of yesterday  starts to bring to mind memories that will never ever be forgotten, and they travel with you – when ever you feel in the mood!

This song , “Just the way YOU are”  is one of those songs,  that I really enjoy – as I recall – just as if it were yesterday – – and LEE, my husband was right here – alive as he was – and we were dong all the same things – in the same old ways!

This Photo could be early 1960’s and we were opening this new  “Snack Bar”  in Fort Lauderdale, Florida – – and were having as much FUN as two little kids – enjoying the work and spending all of our time together – never ever dreaming that there would be an end to our DREAM.

One very important memory – the inscription Lee put inside my Wedding Ring – “LOVE Forever Lee and Ellen” – and when you say something like that – – that is what you mean – and it is never ever forgotten. Memories go with you – here and forever into the next  realm – and I am so glad that we made such a  terrific choice –  “I don’t see you anymore” – but,  I do know that you are always here – just so many reminders – that keep me in LOVE with YOU –  forever!

“All the good times and all the bad times – I still take you – – just the way you are”  – I just LOVE the words in this song – they were written just for you  and me – a memory that will last forever!

“Our Creator gave to me – the very best of  gifts  – when HE gave you  to me, and for as long as was possible – which is forever… for me!”    D.V.

“Seeking Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding”

Verse of the Week”

James 3:17-18 New Living Translation (NLT)

17 But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. 18 And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

I was just thinking  – – that at least on the first day of week… we should start the “WEEK”  with a verse from the BIBLE.

The above verse came to me… via  “Bott Radio Network” – – and …   this week’s program highlights featuring Dr. Erwin Lutzer with Running to Win radio broadcast.

My thinking… came as I read the above verse – – and then I had to read it again – –  and was unable to trash after reading – – sometimes that happens to me… have to read and ponder  – – why – – what is this message to me  – –  is there something in this message that needs to be passed on – – and even saved for that “RAINY DAY” – – down  the road – – because – – – there is a reason for  every thing – – action and response – – and sometimes we overlook – – something IMPORTANT!

“WISDOM”… that is what we all need and want – – especially the “WISDOM” from above. If the “WISDOM” is impartial and sincere  – – of which it would be coming from above – – It will  help  us to be  more peaceable and more gentle in our daily    actions  and responses to  our FAMILY and our NEIGHBORS and in all of the other problems… that come knocking at our door.

In TODAY’s  fast LIFE – – we hear a few words – – see a few actions taken by people we do not even know – – and without having any … knowledge… understanding – – we run off without “GOOD WISDOM” of the situation – – into a “hell-of-a-mess” – – with all the end results – – causing more injury than any kind of “GOOD” help – – that we did want to give.

“TODAY” – – of all TIMES…  I believe we need more “WISDOM” – – and before we run off to HELP – – where we know nothing – – get first correct information – – with others — get the correct information  sorted out with a plan of ACTION – – that with good council and a workable plan – – PRAY for GUIDANCE – – our CREATOR will direct HIS people in the correct PATH to take.          D.V.

“Baby Needs New Shoes”

In the 1960’s  – my husband decided to take us to the “Dog Races” in Florida – as I had never been there before. We had a table with some friends that were buying tickets on an up and coming  “Dog Race” – – and this lady next  to me was yelling, “Baby Needs New Shoes!”

This was all new to me – and since,  I had no idea of how you would be able to pick a  “WINNER”  – did not take any chances – just did my fair share of watching and talking with those that seem to be –  really enjoying  this type of  “RACING” and some people were “WINNERS” – while I was also watching a  number  of others – just tearing up their tickets and throwing them on the ground, must have been losers!

This one lady at our table, yelling for “Baby needs new shoes” to WIN – finally was so happy that her “DOG” was a WINNER – and so I had to ask her, “WHY” she picked this DOG – and so she said – “Earlier in the day – she was saying,  “BABY needs new shoes” and when this “dog” was on the program – she just knew it would be a WINNER, for her!”

I have since found out that,  “BABY NEEDS NEW SHOES” IS A GAMBLING TERM,  may have been used in the movies, when someone is about to roll the dice – and just have to say something – that will help send those dice  – flying to the other end of the table, as “WINNERS!”

So,  how do you like these  “New Shoes for a BABY?”

When you get to be my age – You just might like to tell people that you are NOW, in your second childhood – and as a new “BABY”  – your shoes are looking just a little on the shabby side,  and really could stand to be replaced – if “Prince Charming”  stepped into the picture!

There is a “Prince Charming”  in this  picture, my Grandson Alan, – was asking,  what would you like for your “BIRTHDAY”  and whatever you  would like  – just say so – and he will take me, to shop for it.  So, there I am thinking – as I have no idea of what in the world would  I  now want or even  need – after all of these years, if I did not get what I wanted – now is way past the time to start doing any kind of silly getting  of stuff – that I may never ever think to use – since so much that you buy,  today – – has at least ten pages of instructions  – for the how’s to work it – just too much trouble for me to start all over to try  to learn some  “New tricks” – that make no sense.

There is a point in TIME – that if you did not “DO” something when you were “YOUNG and ABLE” – how can you justify the TIME you have left – trying out something that  is just too complicated to start with? But, I did have to say something – so, I said, “BABY needs new shoes!” – How’s that for saying something?

Alan picked me up,  took me  to a couple of different Shoe Stores – so that I now have four pair f brand new shoes that I am now breaking in. New shoes are tough and rough on old feet, but as  I am wearing them – a different pair each day – I like the new choices and my feet like the fact that this “old BABY got New SHOES” – and the best part of the “Shopping trip”  – was a terrific dinner to finish the day.

Birthdays only come around once a year – but this last BIRTHDAY  – will be lasting forever – as long as I am wearing  a pair of  “NEW SHOES!”

“Just  have to ask the Almighty Yahweh to BLESS,  my GRANDSON, ALAN – more abundantly than he  would ever expect – for being a most wonderful GRANDSON!” D.V.

“Some old SONGS, You never forget”

Just have to check out another old memory, since my son, Lee  was asking me about “Lambs”  – something in the BIBLE that he was reading – just to see,  if I knew the story – and before he could say too much, there I was singing this old song from the 1940′

Mairzy Doats: The Children’s Song

I know a ditty nutty as a fruitcake
Goofy as a goon and silly as a loon
Some call it pretty,
others call it crazy
But they all sing this tune:

Mairzy doats and dozy doats
And liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn’t you?
Yes! Mairzy doats and dozy doats
and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn’t you?

If the words sound queer
And funny to your ear,
A little bit jumbled and jivey
Sing “Mares eat oats
And does eat oats
And little lambs eat ivy”

Oh! Mairzy doats and dozy doats
And liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn’t you?
A kiddley divey too, wouldn’t you?

“Unforgettable memory – Aunt Irene…”

If you want small children to learn something “NEW” and “never – ever”  forget it  – be sure that they  are under the age of seven (7) years of age  – and make sure…you are having “FUN”  – – – since small children remember those times when they are having  more FUN …and the adults are having just as much FUN… with them!

During the early 1940s – – and WWII was also in full swing – that is when everybody was doing their part in trying to help … with the WAR effort – that is even our Aunt Irene  – – she was saving – since she would go to  the  downtown – Saint Louis  – department stores  – do her ordering and making arrangement for the merchandise to be sent out to her home.

Tuesday – that was the day – as Famous Barr stores gave double “Eagle Stamps” – and by saving on your purchases – well… everyone knows – you then have something for that “raining day” spending.

So… on Tuesdays – when getting on the BUS to come back home – Aunt Irene would be sure to get a “Transfer Ticket” so that she could catch the next BUS  – that is after having made a stop … at our house. Aunt Irene would be at our house before noon – and sometimes even had lunch with us. Then, she would always sit at my Mother’s sewing machine and either be making something for me or do some mending.

My two brothers and I would be standing around her as she would always have so much to say… but on this one occasion she taught us a “NEW SONG” that was very popular at the time on the radio. This “song” had words that – when you sang them a little fast and to the music as she did – you really didn’t know what you were singing – because it sure did sound “funny to your ears” and that was the whole idea of this song – – a play on the words – and as a little kid – I did not realize that then,  and not until I was working for the “Telephone Company” and I was working on the night shift.

We – that is – just a few workers – on the “night shift” and sometimes – so few calls coming through for assistance – that we “girls” had some spare time to talk about all kinds of silly stuff – which lead me to asking “Big MARY” – as she was a singer for some organizations on the side – I had ask her if she knew this old song and if she knew all the words???

A “Kid’s” Song

“Mares eat oats, and “Does” eat oats, and Little Lambs eat ivy – a Kid will eat ivy too, Wouldn’t you?  — If the words sound queer  and funny to your ears —  a little  bit Jumbly and Jivey,  sing – etc., —  you could go on with this forever.”

The words above are the correct words – but the way that I was singing them to “Big Mary” – well – she sure let me in on the whole song – the way – I should  say –  the correct way to sing this song  – and that with the correct words  – and sung fast … well that is where …the Jumbly and Jivey …do their thing.

I am guessing that this learning lesson came about when I was re-hired by the “Telephone Company” for the third or fourth time – as I had worked for them five (5) different times – Oh – almost forgot – I may have been in my 30’s … – took all that time to learn the correct and coolest words to an old song – that  our “Aunt Irene”… taught us three little kids… in maybe 1944???

Try singing those words and see if you don’t remember that old song – and then try to forget it – – That is one “old” song that just hangs on in the “memory bank” – forever!!!
