To Do List:

Get some batteries and blank tapes. Why you ask?? Because I found some old tapes  from the ’70s, when my sons were in grade school.

All ready, you just have no idea , the thrill, it is to hear my sons play the theater organ,  songs  and singing. Talking and Laughing, such sweet sounds you only wish you would get to hear again, and just by Luck, I’m thanking God Almighty, to be able to enjoy the Love of Life, in my senior years.

Parents, turn on the tape recorder, this Mother’s and Father’s Day, coming up.Get all the family, especially Grands and Greats,  tape, and  tape  and make copies for all the Seniors, to enjoy. They will be thanking you Volumes! Do It!  Now!

JINX

Instead of the Kentucky Derby, today,   in the 1960’s, my husband took me to the Hialeah Track Club House,  for dinner.

There was a horse he said,  “was Ready”,  if your going to place a bet?   I took a look at the Odds Board  and placed   a bet on  the Long Shot.

When the horses were nearing the finish line,   his horse in the lead,   hit the ground, 2nd,  3rd,  and 4th horse  stumbled and fell,   one   over the other.   What a catastrophe ! My   Long Shot, came in 1st !

My husband was really upset and looking at me, asks, “You bet on the winner?  Yes!   To Win?,    No!,   To Show?,   Why Not To  Win??,   Yours was going to ‘ Win’ ,   how could I ?”         “You are a JINX,    never again with me to the track !!”

Ice Cream

If you were 6 years old, a girl with two younger  brothers, would you go by yourself to get ice cream,  for the family? At night??

When my father came home , after working at the Post Office, and on his feet all day, we would have supper. Afterwards, my brothers and I would play outside in our backyard, on the swings, until we were called in.

My father would ask me to go to the Kissell Drug Store, and have the Soda Jerk, hand-pack one (1) quart vanilla ice cream, the way my mother liked.

Money in hand, I had to cross Carter Ave., and go one (1) block, and when car lights, flicker, I would dash behind a tree. It was dark and I was scared. Crossing Florissant Ave., I was there! With ice cream in hand, I ran home as fast as I could,  never told anyone I was so scared, cause, I love ice cream!

“God Bless America”

Have you heard  Kate Smith, sing , “God Bless America” ? When she would sing, I know , God heard and answered, as well all Americans, during WWII.

At 12noon, on KMOX 1120 radio dial, everyday our radio on, I gave it all I could to sing along, for all the world to hear. We were at war, I did my part, with my wagon, collecting old newspapers and magazines, for the War effort, and any kind of metal and old coffee cans filled with grease.

A swing-type door was added to the garage wall, for chickens and to  collect eggs, and a Victory Garden. We all did our part every day, for years. Thank You God, for seeing, hearing and putting an end to WWII in 1945.

May is Marvalous!

What’s the song,” Not a D scouring Word?” Today, sing out a Cheery Word to someone, if family put a lot of Gusto into it. Come across with Love in the words, so the recipient/hearer  will feel they just received  a Million Bucks.

Make today count for something extra special! “Mark the Calendar”, I feel better, I give love, I feel “Wings on my heels”!

No greater Joy, than to see  friends and family   10-foot taller, just because I was able to make their day , with a Good Word.

Grandmas Day, too!

In some families, with as fast and busy  as times are, we just don’t find enough  time  to visit Grandma. So, Mother’s Day, 05/13/2012, right around the corner, “Let’s visit Grandma”!

Starting with my children, young and excited in the car, one must think of something on the spot, to do, getting their attention and drive the car, too.

“Exercise the Lungs”! As soon as we started the approach to the bridge, I started singing “Over the River and through the Woods, to Gramdmother’s House we go …”, and just  as  fast stop singing, sometimes cutting a word in half, as soon as the top of the bridge appears. We all laugh and giggle, they want more bridges. (We lived in Florida, then.)

When we all travel together, and all so much older, no little ones, now, we still will sing just to see who remembers and laugh for all the good times together.
