“Bernard Riley” being remembered…
“Little Bernard … visiting cousins in ELDON, Missouri.
Sometimes… a great tragedy hits a family … in a way that is hard to understand…and when it is your young child, who you LOVE more than LIFE itself – – you almost loose your FAITH in the ALMIGHTY. The only question that you can ask is, “Why?” – – “Why my son, the only true LOVE of my LIFE… and without him – – LIFE really is no longer worth living.”
This is little Bernie… on Ashland Avenue, Saint Louis.
This photo was saved because…at the ‘gate’ – – that is little “BERNIE” – trying to stay out of this photo of the baby… being photographed in the fancy high-chair.
The occasion for this photo taking …would be the “SUNDAY” dinner that all the FAMILY – – that is all those that could be… would for sure to come and visit on SUNDAYS… because GRANDMA ANNE SMART BRADY – – – would have all kinds of good food – – all homemade – -and at no cost to the FAMILY and their spouse.
The first and eldest son, JAMES BRADY… and with his wife – they were there this SUNDAY – – showing off their new baby girl – – that they had just adopted. So… therefore – pictures would need to be taken – just to remember this occasion.
Since JAMES BRADY… probably wanted a boy – but received a girl… this little baby girl was always called “JIMMIE” – – and many years later when we …that is my husband, LEE and children were living in Florida – – we met “JIMMIE BRADY SCHILLING” – – and I never thought to ask her – – if she had a regular girl’s name – – and if “JIMMIE” was the name put on her birth certificate??? So… as far as I know…”JIMMIE” is her name and when we visited she was living in the Merritt Island vicinity…and that would have been way back in the 1960’s.

“The Duffy GIRLS…Play Ball…”
The DUFFY GIRLS… are ready to play ball…
This is Martha and Peggy Duffy…and they did live in Moberly, Missouri. These are a couple of photos taken around the turn of the CENTURY…early 1900’s…and I was LUCKY… to find … all these old people…FAMILY and FIENDS …in an old shoe box – – belonging to my Aunt Irene Brady Riley.
These photos are old and not all of them… in the best of quality…but still there is something to talk about…especially… if you lived in the areas and or maybe know of FAMILIES that did live in the Missouri area and if there are relatives that may be wondering …if a someone by a similar name – – could be a relation…then you may just be in LUCK – – – you just never know…where you will find out about a NAME or a FACE – and will cost nothing when you can find it – – right there at your finger tips! “GOOD LUCK!”
This PHOTO is a “POST-CARD” and was sent to my GRAND-MOTHER … Mrs. Thomas F. BRADY…4300 North 19th Street, SAINT LOUIS – – and sent from Montgomery City, MISSOURI.
I have no idea what it may have cost…for them – way back then… to have this personalized POST-CARD made… but it only cost “ONE-CENT” – to the sender… for the postage… and has been around …all these many years – – just waiting for some “NEW EYES” to see and talk about!
The “DUFFY GIRLS” – – sure look good – – no matter what they are doing… “What do you think???”

“Over One Hundred years…ago!”
Little Marie Brady… in Moberly…Montgomery City
The adults in this photo are…Stella and Carol.
The DUFFY GIRLS… DORA…MARTHA…PEGGY
“If… I do say so…myself – these “GIRLS” sure look like – – and are so HAPPY …that finally – someone has decided to show them off to the whole wide world!”
When you think back – – that there was no “Air-conditioning” and the weather was HOT – and these “GIRLS” are wearing HATS…LONG SKIRTS… long PET TI-COATS…. no wonder the waist-line is so small???
My MOTHER…would often talk about her visiting the “DUFFY GIRLS” and that DORA was the one that would be accused of doing the dumbest of things – and that she would cause so much commotion – that – I remember hearing my MOTHER say…”When “DORA” was DUMB – -no one was dumber???”
So… when the occasion would occur that I had done something “DUMB” – and like everyone …will do – – from time to time – – I had old DUMB DORA … to blame – – and then… we would just laugh – – it was “good medicine” for me!
Is this a “WOW” Picture or NOT???”
This is DORA and PEGGY…and – – are they dressed to go and DROWN their selves… or… do they really think that they will be able to swim… with all those “extra” heavy clothes on??? – I was wondering. too – – the “GIRLS” in those days …with all of those clothes … they didn’t really think – – that they were “SUN BATHING???” – – “DID THEY???”

“Aunt Irene with baby Bernard…”
This old photo taken so long ago and no one knew of or seen – – will take some time to check for the date …taken and baby BERNARD’s age…
The only thing that I know for sure is that …little BERNARD – – died at the age of ten (10) – – was hit when he was to run after a ball going into the street – – the driver was drunk and was sued – – but little BARNARD was the best child – – everyone said so!
Looks like this is 1913… and the address is 4044 Palm Street – Saint Louis.

“Longest Horn…Music for the HEARING…”
If you were at the St. Vincent Home Picnic…last Sunday the 27th of September 2015… you were in for a real treat…you heard music being played from the longest “HORN” that I ever saw …and it was terrific!
Check out the above photo … “Good Music played by the BAND – and the longest horn added some extras for your pleasure and then a young lady – – gave it her all – – singing songs that we all know and would you believe – – – I did … just had to… add my own “two-cents” worth – did put a real strain on the old voice box – – but I gave it that little extra touch – – the touch that lets everyone know – – someone in the crowd – – is feeling very good …right NOW and … and right HERE!”
The walk-way to the grounds…where the PICNIC was held… was nicely decorated with white and blue balloons …all along the way – – just to put you in the mood to have FUN and ENJOY yourselves …old FRIENDS and all the other FAMILIES … which were there to have FUN… as lots more were coming in…just hoping that the next person that they meet…will be that special “someone” that – they have not seen for years – – so today is the day….just for making new memories!
