“When IT is TOO Cold for the MAILMAN BAKE”

If and when “YOU” have  lived long enough – you can do some comparing of the TIMES – as you were around – and would know  – that which WAS THEN – and  NOW KNOW  the difference!

Let’s just start with  MISSOURI – right there in the middle of everything – dead center,  in my view point of things. Since, I now live here and also when I was just a small girl and that would have been during the days of WWII – when all of us,  AMERICANS  – even us smaller citizens – where taught,  to do our part –  all of us,  always  working together,  toward the “WAR Effort” – as we knew that to be  FREE – we wanted our  FREEDOM  to continue for ever!

Yesterday and TODAY  several STATES are in the very close to “Zero” temperatures  –   and some “STATES announced that they are below “ZERO”  making this year the worst of all years  and the best place to be is HOME,  trying to keep your family warm , No SCHOOL, naturally  with conditions  so very COLD, with all of us  being  so COLD that,  NOW  and I never ever thought that I would hear,  even the “POST OFFICE” has announced on the radio that there will NOT  be any “MAIL” delivered  due to the weather conditions!

Hearing that – I do remember that when the WAR was going on – we did have “MAIL”  delivery three times a day – and of course “Telegrams”  – – young boys delivered  on their bikes – the telegrams, messages,  that most people did not want to receive!

So, yesterday – to stir up some extra heat in the  house – thought I old “Bake” –  SOMETHING SWEET TO EAT! In going through the recipes – found this old one which makes up a small pan of brownies  – but thought that I would double it – so took out of the freezer a pound of butter. Set the four sticks out on a tray to eventually get to room temperature  as I had other things to do. Also set out four eggs as I was going to double this recipe.

Looking at the recipe and getting the different ingredients out – and  then, left everything there – while I went to the computer to do my thing and let everything rest .

After an hour or so, to he KITCHEN – and  starting  with the first of the  items the butter – unwrapping the four sticks of butter  and putting into the mixer bowl – and let that whip up as I go down the list for the next items – using a “ONE” cup measure cup for the flour,   and got out the “two” cup measure for the sugar to have ready – the butter was taking a long hard time, so started with the sugar – hoping that would help the butter – still no real help – so with the spatula – starting the use of some “elbow grease”  to help push the butter around  the bowl,   away  from the sides – just seemed to be too much of something?

Should have checked the recipe – but,  started to add one egg at a time and the vanilla – some movement, seem to help some  – but something not quite right?

Did you ever realize that you put too much “butter” into your recipe? Well I did  –  so did  try to start readjusting the ingredients – did not  add any  more vegges – just thought,  “I will have to see how this turns out!” Added the two cups of nuts and put this fairly sift better into two pans – and baked for the correct amount of time

Was I ever surprised – but,  this was so good – had four little squares from the one pan – and thought may as well try four  from the other pan as well. – When I told Al to try and see if he likes them – he said they were the best ever!

This recipe is at least forty years old – and have baked this recipe so many times – but this,  was for sure the best tasting time ever – and I would not be able to do it again – since I NOW know – can not add four  sticks of butter to  it – when I double it – So this time will be just a terrific memory for all time.

“Let me know,  if you also,  like this extra special “Brownie” recipe?”
