“Using Onions for the Cure for TODAY”

Just remember the times as they were for me and my brothers some seventy years ago. Seems that some kind of a “virus” will pop up when people need to check on what they are doing and causing them to take a certain amount of time to stop some of the things that they are doing and make corrective changes for their community

This photo is an old photo that I have when we were in the German St. Vincent Orphan Home.

The next photo is an old photo of my brothers and me on the “Stage” a spot where my Dad could find enough Sunlight, in order to take a picture with his old “box type” camera in this “Auditorium” when my parents came out on a “Visiting Sunday” afternoon.

You see that there was only a very small square spot of “Sunshine” from one of the windows hitting the spot for us to crunch together and be … hope fully seem as if we were enjoying ourselves?

As I remember…there was a period of time in the Fall of the year, that so many of the children were getting sick… exactly from what…I do not still remember, but what I do remember was …what was done to cure the situation.

In the rooms and corridors throughout the building… you would find several  “ONIONS” together and each “onion” would be cut wide open,  so as to sit as a collecting agent of the “germs”…. these “Onions” would be in dishes just high enough to be out of reach of a child, but where the children would be.

As  I recall “ONIONS”  were placed in all areas where the children would be for long periods of time,  no one died as it did smell of “ONIONS” for a long time and after a period of time… all the children were all back to the regular schedule that we were on.

Seems to me, that whatever germs were flying around through the airways of the building, all the NUNS and children were well, after a short period of time and back to the regular schedule.

Just maybe, TODAY… we should have lots of cutup  “onions” sitting around, collecting the germs and everyone would be healthy again!
