“Things happen and there is NO Forgetting”

“Mother Day Memories”

May 11th – Sunday – the most important “DAY” to me … Mother’s Day! The most important person in my LIFE… is my “MOTHER,  Marie B. McClarren”… she also passed on…

Just a couple of days’ before Mother’s Day… and I do know that she is in Heaven with Almighty Yahweh who blesses her, for she suffered so much while here on earth.

“HAPPY MOTHER’s DAY   MOM… you are A #1” …  I will always love and miss “you” the most-est!!!  xoxoxoxoxo …

Just thinking back to “1974” and I was working at the Real Estate  office in Affton and doing pretty well, but this week everything changed for me,

I had called my MOM  on Sunday evening and we were making some plans for the following Sunday which would be Mother’s Day!

Monday while at the R.E. Office, called my Mom… no answer… so I went about the day’s work of being in and out of the office, as a group of Agents would go together to look at newly listed properties… making notes as to those customers that might be looking for just such a location and house.

Tuesday to the office…checking for messages and making calls to customers and also called my MOM again… and NO answer. Called again from home a couple of times, just figured that she was with others that also lived in one of those …two tall buildings in mid-town east on Grand Avenue, Council Towers Apartments… and MOM lived on the fifteen flour, some fifty years ago.

Wednesday… in the office for meetings…took time to call my Mother again and still no answer. I called a couple of times and still not getting anywhere. So I called the main office to see what was going on? The woman that answered said, She is probably traveling somewhere?” If she were… I would know… and my Mother does not travel as her family is here.

So… I asked this person if someone could go to her room and check on her” She told me that they check on each other… on each floor they sound a bell late evening… and each tenant sticks their head out their door and each neighbor knows that their neighbor is okay! If they do not see their neighbor…they report that missing neighbor to the office and we do not have such a report for your Mother.

They sure were not in a big hurry to do a favor for me, but when I finally persuaded her to go check…I did not get a callback. I had to call the office back again…and that person said, “Mrs. McClarren is dead.”

This was the worst thing to happen… cannot get good information regarding my Mother… and their system of checks on all the people living there… no one really cares about their neighbors!

Needless to say… I dropped everything and flew down there… should have gotten a ticket for speeding… as I was flying low. When I got to my Mother’s room…several people there … going through her possessions. I ask them what they were doing, and someone said, “If she has anything of value, we save for the family.” My question was, “Why did you NOT call me back?”

They told me that they have called an ambulance to take my Mother to the hospital… and when they were there to take my Mother away… guess who they gave the bill to…ME!

So on Thursday, my two young sons and I were at the Funeral Home to select and make the arrangements for the funeral and so it looks like…on Mother’s DAy we will be with my MOTHER all day and evening at the Funeral Home with family and friends… to give my MOTHER the best and busiest send off to Heaven…as everyone would make this a day to remember!    D.V.
