“Remembering… GRANDMA BRADY”

More…  old   PHOTOS…  “Grandma Anne E. Brady”  – – herself…

“Grandma Brady”  another day – – or later… – – evidently done with  the  cleaning  out  of the “Bird Cage” in the previous PHOTO – – my MOTHER told me – – that they always  had a singing “Canary” – – and I still have the special  “bird-bath”  dish that my MOTHER had for her … very own  “Canary!”

Sure am glad that someone with a camera – – thought to take a few PHOTOS of  “Grandma BRADY”  – – – even though these are not the best – – at least —  – if you have very good  “eye-sight”  – – you can see some resemblance  – – to some of the BRADY FAMILY – – and some of  the  “BRADY Clan” – –  – – that are  growing up in…  2017!

These PHOTOS were taken in the early 1900’s – – as you can tell by the length of the  “dress-type apron”   worn to do some work in the home – – or for cleaning the house – – you do remember that “MONDAY” was WASH DAY – – and “TUESDAY”  Iron the clothes day – – each “DAY” of the week you did the same ole stuff – – and were so…  GLAD to HAVE…  a DAY of REST… SUNDAY!

“SUNDAY” was not a day of  rest for this “GRANDMA” – – because all of the married children came home  – – for the special meal that only “GRANDMA  BRADY”  would make – – and they all filled up – – as  everything was made from scratch –  – – and so  “delicious”- the best of  “HOME-MADE” desserts to finish a meal with .  My MOTHER  had told me  – – that “GRANDMA”  always made her own  “BREADS” – – they were selling “BREADS” at some “SHOPS” – – but her FATHER, MR. BRADY – – had said he would only eat the “BREADS” … that his wife, “NAN” would make.

“Those were the “DAYS” where the  FAMILY was altogether  on SUNDAY – – after CHURCH – – all  celebrated the best of meals – – just as if it was  “CHRISTMAS” … every SUNDAY!”

“Who is Mama…expecting”

This Photo is of course of “ME” – – but … the question for “ME” to try to figure out  – – “WHO are we expecting?”

Sure  – – do wish this PHOTO was just a little better – – as our faces just do not come in too clear.  Mom’s face  is so much younger than  – – I can remember – – but of course  – – I am so young on this PHOTO – – but…  what I see is certainly a very young and happy face. My husband told me – – that when a woman is expecting – – she always has the face of an “ANGEL”  – — and whatever he would say… “I believed!” Lee was older – – had more sense than me – – and always knew so much more than I did – – although there are lots of things – – I wish I could now remember more.

Here is another PHOTO – – Daddy is suppose to be taking my picture only – – – but – – in this shot also  – – catches “MOM” on the right side of each PHOTO – –  – NOW that I think of it – – wonder what such an accident like this… means?  Could just mean that my “MOTHER” is always looking after my  ‘good’ welfare in LIFE – – at all the ages of my LIFE – – and so NOW  – when in my old age – – and “MOM and DAD” are already gone – – I will always  have  very ‘good memories’ – – to last a LIFE-TIME!

Just have to have a PHOTO of my “GRAND-MOTHER,  ANNE E.  Smart BRADY” – – and this PHOTO is  terrific – – she is in the center – – looking pretty   “spry” for a woman  “WHO” had thirteen children and lived to be in her eighties.

On the right is my  “Mother” to be some day – – as in this PHOTO she is very young – – and almost didn’t get on this this PHOTO – – had to do some  work trying to get enough to half-way see Marie – – She almost looks like an ANGEL – – just hanging onto the arm of her MOTHER. On another post – – I believe that I have the name of the lady on the left – – can not remember all the particulars… at the moment.

I am glad though – – to have a MOTHER and DAUGHTER…  “to be  – – for me someday” – – as you can tell – – with the long dresses – – this is early 1900’s – – almost a hundred years ago. To me “Grandma” has the face of ENGLAND – – a very strong constitution – – did all of her own cooking and baking – – I was told everyone in the FAMILY came home on SUNDAYS for dinner – – and filled up for the week – –

Just thinking about  those long dresses and several pet ti-coats – – and  no air-conditioner – –  – -you surly could not get fat. They sure did not need a “gym” to  go to – – they worked from the early wee-hours – – til late at night – – more than a full days work done – – seems they were all in good shape, too!

“Anne E. Smart Brady”

This PHOTO of my “GRAND-MOTHER”  – – is a real keepsake for me – – as I have been told that I favor her in looks – – as well as having as much “get-up and go” – –  I have only two sons – – compared that to Grandma Brady having thirteen (13) children – of which…  there were  three  (3) sets of twins.

“Twins” run in the FAMILY – – my MOTHER also had a set of  twin girls.

1930's 001

This PHOTO of GRANDMA… is on the back property of her son, Thomas Brady and his wife ANN… with no “e” at the end of of her first name – – and this is 4200 North Broadway – Saint Louis.

From what I can remember… “ANNE” with two sisters and their MOTHER came to AMERICA from ENGLAND – – –  we still have relatives over there  as I have old mail… communication… back and forth.    It is amazing the  old “stuff” some past relatives kept and saved…    with some good old stamps – – still on the envelopes.  And then… I come along – – and with the influence of   “WWII” – -save and use up … and made due  ’cause you never know – – the day will come – – you will need it!

So… with all of that “history” … here I am saving old stuff from relatives who have long ago passed on to their “greater good” – – and I sure do not want to hurt any of their feelings by pitching out something – – something that they wanted to be saved…forever?   “What a situation… that puts me in?”   “I just do not know of anyone – – half-way like me – – who would even want to save stuff – – –  some of which…  I have no real use for – – but…  the minute it is gone – – I know that then – – I will have  figured out – – “what it was good for” –  so then what can I do?”

“How old… would you say “GRANDMA BRADY” is on this PHOTO?”   “I am just trying to figure out how close  – – in age…  I am to this PHOTO?”

“Grandma Brady and Irene, daughter”

img091

Our Grandma, Anne E. Smart Brady and  daughter, Irene Brady Riley – celebrating  Irene’s “Birthday”

This picture is taken at Grandma Brady’s – backyard – 1928 – Aunt Irene is the big  40 and Grandma is 76 years old. When you want to celebrate – you would want Grandma Brady to have the “PARTY” at her house – she could bake and cook better than anyone. Grandpa Brady  would never eat anywhere but at home – his wife was the best  – and there was no sense paying for second best when you could enjoy the best of everything at home with your wife!

Aunt Irene had the best of teachers – when it came to learning all about the cooking and baking skills needed to keep your husband well fed and very healthy – because you are what you eat – and the best of foods need someone to prepare – someone that knows how to shop and then, cook and bake  in such a way that the people will be healthly and live longer – when you have soneone who truly – cares!
