Isaiah 40:31

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.”

This weekend, Jews around the world will observe Tisha B’Av, the holy day marking the many tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people over the years — most notably the destruction of the First and Second Temples. While it is a solemn day, it is not without hope, as Jews everywhere are reminded that their survival through so many difficult trials is a miracle from God Himself. Given the hardships many of us still face today, may we remember this message of hope, and trust that God has the ability to redeem any situation, no matter how impossible it may seem.

  • Praise God for this holy fellowship of people of faith — Christians and Jews — who continue to enable us to provide humanitarian aid and rescue to those facing the continuing war in Ukraine. “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor” (Ecclesiastes 4:9).
  • Pray for the people affected by the terrible flooding in Kentucky. May those who are missing be found, and may those who lost loved ones find comfort. “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering…” (Isaiah 53:4).
  • Remember all those who are facing wildfires out west, that God will protect those in danger’s way. “You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word” (Psalm 119:114).
  • And praise Him for our faithful donors who continue to help us provide children, families, and elderly Holocaust survivors with basic needs during the summer. “And all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:3).

“Some Days are Far Better Than Others”

“One” in a Million Days!

My eyes could hardly  believe  what they were seeing!

A most beautiful doe deer and  her fawn  are standing along the inside of our  back fence!

It was almost  8:30am  and  as I was very slowly pulling the  blinds open as I usually do each and everyday … have  to see, just exactly what is going on in the “Sunset Park”  and  as I stand  in front of the picture window, and so slowly  as usual… I am pulling them open  –

I  am looking out and always very quietly  standing near the window… but it seems that, the  “Mama” deer  must have some super vision, because as the blinds are opening up  – the deer stands so still   –  but … now looking up  here, and right  at me.

That deer must have some terrific side vision  and immediately freeze  –  standing  just so still and alert, before continuing what they are doing.

The fawn had a small white-tail and that little tail  just shook  like a little duster… guess the Mother  immediately passed on to  her baby  a signal of danger… and that,  they now must proceed with caution!

Don’t know if some kind of  secret  alarm  from the  mother’s temporary nervous state  was passed on and if   they were now,  getting ready to take off.

Now, while they  were here they did eat something  and stood so tall and full of the most  exotic colors  of brown and reds  and orange  mixture  of royal coloring. They almost  looked  as if they were posed for pictures.

I was wishing  that I  had a camera, and  then was thinking, maybe…  I should call the neighbors so they could also  see and enjoy such a beautiful start for their day!

In full day light  for deer  to be on my side of the fence is highly unusual. I do see  the deer in the early evening when the  day light is almost gone.

On one evening, as my son was about to leave the house, we were just starting to walk out  of our front door,  and   just along the  west side of the  house  is   approaching from the back yard… just  the biggest older buck coming  toward  our front yard and aiming to cross  over the front yard going easterly  and along that fence, concealing him by lots of trees … as he was planning  to jump it.

We just so fast and quietly withdrew back into  the house, so as not to disturb this most elegant buck.

Where the buck was going  – we have no idea, because in just a few minutes  – we did not see  nor hear anything to indicate  a problem?

I feel it is a real blessing for us to be able to  see  “wild life” up front and center,  so close and as all of life  is such a real beauty to behold!

Thank You Heavenly  Father,   for providing your people with  such a beautiful world    –  to live in and enjoy!

This was truly a wonderful day for my eyes to  view freely  some of your magnificent  wild animals!

“Thank You Almighty Creator”

“Have a real Happy Halloween, October 31st”

“READ: About the PUMPKIN ANGEL”

October is usually a happy time for me—my grandchildren, Daniel and Carly, get all excited about Halloween. They spend weeks beforehand discussing their costumes and dreaming of all that candy.

More than anything else, though, they love pumpkins. And not just any pumpkins. They wanted the ones grown by their great-aunt Margaret. What would my grand-kids do this first Halloween after she died?

I liked to joke that my sister Margaret had a soft spot for those kids—the compost pile in her backyard. That’s where the pumpkins grew. And she and the kids tended to them, slipping an upside-down pie pan under each one so it wouldn’t rot sitting on the ground.

Whenever I picked up my grandchildren and took them to visit Margaret, they’d barely say hello before bursting out into the yard to see what was going on in their “pumpkin patch.” They harvested them and used the big ones for carving into jack-o’-lanterns.

I didn’t know why or how pumpkins grew in a compost heap, of all places. Margaret never planted seeds. Maybe she’d thrown an old pumpkin out there one year. She had a green thumb, though. She could have dug a hole, dropped in a worm and ended up growing a rose bush.

I envied her gardening skills. If only I had inherited Margaret’s abilities after she passed away.

Halloween without Margaret’s pumpkins, Lord? I prayed one night. I wished there were some other way to make the day special. To let Daniel and Carly know their great-aunt’s spirit lived on.

Next day I went to visit the kids. I can help them with their costumes, I thought. That’ll be something, at least. “Hi!” I said, opening the door.

As soon as I walked in they said the quickest hello before shouting, “Grandma! Grandma! Come and see!”

“See what?”

“Just come!” they said, grabbing my hands and dragging me with them. We went outside. There, right on the side of the house, were half-a-dozen pumpkins. All plump and orange, with vines trailing everywhere. Growing in a spot where nothing had ever been planted.

I said, “You know what Aunt Margaret would do if she were here…” We all raced to the kitchen to get some pie pans. The biggest and best got turned into jack-o’-lanterns. The rest decorated the front porch. And they lasted for months, an autumn-long reminder for my two little pumpkin patch kids.

“Learning to MAKE…”SOME THING”… in the 1940’s

On Mondays, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, instead of going back to classes at school, we assembled at the tables in the playroom  This was for Girls only! Each girl had an assigned seat,  and each Monday, you were sitting ready to receive  your  bundle of  “Handiwork”  to  work on. Each girl  was taught by the  Nun in charge, Sister M. Colombo. You would learn to do embroidery work, and also to crochet, and she would find out what was best for you to do!

Since, I had not done any of this fancy stitching, had to start with a plain white cloth with  a lot of xxx’s on it, and told how  to pull the threaded needle up and down across the area . Then told to turn the hoop and start where I had left off and make an “X” a complete  “Cross-stitch.”

Now that I think about it – I did make quite a few squares of material with  Cross-stitch. Whatever the design, I did not really take notice, ( I was only eight years old) but I’m sure , with enough squares completed, if they are joined together, you could easily have a small quilt?

My eyes  were surveying  what the  older Girls were making, and how fast their fingers and hands were going – like they had a mind of their own!

I, need   to continue  this by answering  –  Why?  For What?  and More!                      *********

Continuing  –  When I was eight years old  and learning to do  Needlework  –  learning that the more you do it  –   the better you become with the project!  Also,  was learning , “Haste makes Waste.”  You need to take your time and be careful so that the small stitches produce the look and design intended for the project.  Large sloppy  stitches and carelessness won’t pass muster,    with the Nuns!

One visiting Sunday, I had told my Mother, that I was learning to do  “Cross-stitch” and she thought that was  “Terrific!” Some time later Mom brought  me some threads of various colors, and a small linen hand towel, requiring  someone to select the right colors of thread and do the design .

Well, that’s what I did, but I was in a hurry, and when I had completed it   –  I did not like the finished towel.  I could see first hand sloppy work  –  looks bad no matter how you look at it. All I could do was to now be very careful to undo everything, I had just done?

It  was close to  “Christmas”  –  and I made up my mind  –  this is going to be done right –  there’s no other way! This needs  to be done  and  done perfectly,  because I will be making this  “Towel as a gift for my Mother!”
