“Uncle John Brady’s…wife Catherine…”

img033

This is a photo  – that was in Aunt Irene Brady Riley’s  old shoe box —with several others – – with the “TIME” frame  of   early 1900’s to 1969 – – that would be the year that Aunt Irene went to her Heavenly Rest –  – no one took the time to check out… who was “WHO” in the old shoe box???

At the top of this photo is …and in Aunt Catherine’s own handwriting… to Irene  and from  Catherine Brady.

What …I know of  Uncle Johnny and Aunt Kitty… that is what she was called – –  Uncle Johnny had the job of “chemist” he did the mixture and soundness of the concrete  that was used for the building of the major downtown Saint Louis buildings – and he must have been very good at his work… as the buildings are still here.

Due to the type of work he had done… Uncle Johnny had cancer so bad that even after having had major surgery back then…  in his condition he would have to stop into an alley and change the bag – – – and then would continue on to walk to Church on Sundays – – and he would be ready to do the same type of change as necessary …on the way home. Back then, Sunday was a day of REST… you go to Church with your FAMILY… and enjoy a very nice “Chicken” dinner…with all the FAMILY…and even sometimes FRIENDS…sharing a nice day of REST…as prescribed by our Creator!

On Sundays…It seem to me as a small little girl…the whole FAMILY would dress …and girls and all women wore a hat to Church… as we all had our Sunday “best” clothes on…and also as we would be walking for several blocks to Church and back to our home – – there would be FAMILY and FRIENDS…that lived on some of the streets that we would walking…and every so often we would stop on the was and talk – – that is the adults would talk and we children would stand around – – – behaving ourselves…as we were to e seen and not heard from.
