Is it February 13th – yet?

Tommy Baby 001

Thomas McClarren is waiting for February 13th – it will be his 74th Birthday!

This picture was taken in front of the apartment  building window where baby Tom – just sitting on  the window sill – leaning to look out and the rotten screen – gave way and out fell Tom.

Lucky for Tom  – nothing broken – there was a very hard rain the night before, leaving the ground soft where Tom fell. We lived here about two months – during the WWII – you just could not find anywhere to rent  or buy – our house sold entirely  too fast  – not giving us enough time to find something suitable for us to buy.

A Banquet Bonanza!

Yesterday’s feast for the “BIRDS” was a real Bonanza for all the animals – near and around Sunset Park! The ‘wild bird seed’ brought in all the birds – some that I had not seen around here. I am glad that they were all able to get the special mixture of peanut butter and fresh bacon grease in a ball covered with the wild bird seed. Hopefully they will be able to endure this awfully cold weather with the fresh snow every few hours.

Late yesterday, when the smell of the peanut butter circulated around – sure enough a fully fur to the nth degree squirrel showed up – for the nuts. I only buy the peanut butter that I like – the honey roasted peanut – that has such a good flavor and fresh smell – anyone could eat the whole jar-full at one sitting – it is that good! With two plates full on the picnic table – would you believe the squirrel came back – today!

This morning – at 7:00 A.M. – when I went out to check on the table of “GOOD EATS” – there were Deer Tracks – all around the table and leading to the fence where they jumped coming into the yard and also toward the other end of the yard where they left – so they must have gotten wind of the “CORN” – so all the animals must have had a real Banquet!

There are “OWLS in some of trees – because I hear them – but I have no idea what they are doing – no tell-tale signs – guess I’ll have to take some time and research what they like and see if I can help them out – at least during this  cold streak of freezing weather?

My son, Al said that we should do our part to help all the animals – since they really have no one to really give a care – as to how they will survive – without the help of someone.

My binoculars really bring to me a first rate show of all the animals having fun – enjoying “good eats” – living in harmony with each other – and always showing me “THANKS” with all the funny things they do – just to let me know – they like what I am doing for them

I hope you too are having fun with your back yard animals!

Birds have ‘Fun’ in snow.

Do you like ‘birds’ – enjoy them in your backyard – doing what they do best – having fun? With the weather around “Zero” for the last week or so, and the ground covered with “snow” – and so much of the white stuff – the poor birds have a hard time finding “good eats.”

The stores have all kinds of bird food on sale – and if you do not have a bird house or feeder – check out ‘Google’ for all the free and helpful information. They have so much information on how to make feeders from all the empty containers you have and are ready to throw away – so easy for you to cut out of plastic jugs and really good ideas from stuff you just would not believe until you check out  – how to make bird feeders on Google!

We have a purple martin bird house in the back yard and so does the neighbor. So, we both have plenty of birds visiting our yards – and like I wrote about the Cardinal Family of birds in the evergreen trees – that visit me on the back porch – I hate to see them freeze with this cold weather. With that said – we put a picnic table near the trees that they live in and love – and on the table top a wood bird feeder and a couple of plastic bowls on the table top with something they really like.

This is what I figured the birds need to build them up in fighting off the cold; Peanut butter – bacon grease – and wild bird seed- mix these ingredients together, into a ball and put half in its own bowl – this way one bowl on either end of the table. This is so not all fight to get at only one bowl. I just wish you could see these birds – one bird just kept eating, must have been so good – he would walk a little kicking up snow and then just standing still at the edge of the table. I thought he would fly away, but – no way! He mosey back and ate some more! HE WAS FILLING UP – SO THAT HE WOULD BUILD UP WARM CELLS IN HIS BODY.

The best part of watching the birds was; the birds in my yard flew over to the neighbor’s yard and must have told those birds what they were eating. The neighbor’s birds – all took flight and made a big flying curve over here and partook of what we were offering “Extra beneficial good eats” – you would think they were having steak and potatoes!

I sure hope all those birds had the best meal ever and get a good night’s sleep – so we can all start over tomorrow having fun – I put out the free food and they put on the best “Free Show” for me  to enjoy and tell everyone – You are missing out – if you are not feeding the birds!

Call me “MAC”

Daddy 1975 001

Just call me “MAC” – that is what my Dad would always tell people. What I remember most about my Dad – he was always friendly –  he  was there to help work – no matter what. Always the best person to have around if you were having a gathering of people – he would do all the cooking and everything served was excellent and all attending – could say,  “another job well done by – MAC!”

1928 -1932 Daddy in Uniform

In uniform 001

Another picture of Daddy, Denny H. McClarren. His face is too young for me to remember and nothing on the back of the photo?  This photo was with the other older photo  – that went to “war”  in the billfold. Too late now to ask anyone for information – no one  lives forever. So if you know about the uniform – let me know – I can look for more information and pictures and also some real old mail?
