“Stormy Weather”

Last night’s  storm really did a number here in the St.Louis  area.  My telephone service just now was available, after over half of the day not even knowing it was out? When the phone does not ring  – I just figure it is time to get other things  done  –  things that sit and wait  –  like reading.

The sliding door was open in the evening  – yesterday,  and I was on the telephone   –  and I heard the “sirens blowing”  – so I ask the person that I was talking to  –  if a  “siren” was ringing in their area?  They probably had their air-condition on  and did not hear anything.  Well,  I had to get off the phone  –  the wind was blowing up a storm and I needed to closed the doors.  ( the storm was here and coming in fast)

When I was standing at the sliding door  – I was going to go out and take the  “Flag”  down  – but the wind was too  great and the lightening  and thunder and the cracking and flashing  –  scared me!    I am still too weak to to be trying to do something   ‘heroic’     –  like save the  “Flag”  in a “wind storm”  –  when the  “Doctor ”  said to get as much rest as possible after my last surgery. I do have to obey his orders!

So,   there I stood, watching the “Flag”  flying  going in every direction  – and the wind looked as if any minute it was going to take  the “Flag” and pole  up and over the house and just   drop  any where?    Any  time  now!

My feelings as I stood watching that “Flag ”  fly and wave were the same as “Francis Scott Key”  when he watch our  “Flag”  taking a pounding and  a beating! Just  watching   –  just in case I had to do something  –  but I just never had  his talent to  write a poem or a song?

The weather last night was just like that  war and  those   conditions   –  that inspired  the writing of “The Star Spangle Banner”   a song that we need to sing more often!
