“Smart and Brady “TWO” Very Good Names”

Four Grandmas

My Grandmother, Anne Elizabeth Smart Brady was born in America. Her mother, Mary Smart came to America from England.

In the late 1800’s, my grandfather, Thomas F. Brady started his family with his wife, Anne and her mother,  Mary Smart,.

In those days,  a mother-in-law  and baby sitter, and an all around  best of help, was  so very… extra good to have!

I call that the “Smart Move”  to make, especially when your,  future  will be

bringing to you … “13 children.”

“Guess what…Three sets of twins,  and all at … no  “extra”  charge.”

My mother, Marie Brady, was  that thirteenth, and the last!

The number “13” shows up a lot…  in our family.

When my mother arrived in 1900, and several of her brothers were already married, some  family and friends could hardly believe, that the  “old” Mrs. Brady was the “mama”.       (Pictures to show up later).

In those days, the last girl in the family was the “insurance card.”

What that meant … and would be that…  she could go to school, college, business school and learn everything, but she did have to live at home, look and dress well, and in their case belong to the “500 club”.

When the parents would be in their senior years … that would be the beginning  of the single MARIE  to then be in charge of the household, and the taking care of the elderly parents… until their death.

From what I know of the family… Marie put off a lot of things…  that she would have done… had she been given the chance… but, she had to do exactly as her parents…  had wanted done in their family.

My Mother even told me… the Bishop  from the Church came to the Brady home several times… and begged the parents to let young Marie …to be a part and join the Convent.

The parents answer was always NO!

Also… their was a young man that my Mother liked, and he wanted to get married, but he got the same answer NO!

And like all good things in LIFE… sometimes… the waiting time runs out! One or the other can finally find another choice… not always the best… but one can not wait for something to happen… when there are no signs of a positive answer coming for years!

So with “TIME” passing… and a  whole lot of  “TIME”… here we are!

There is another story about time and space for each of us… We all will arrive here on EARTH… at that specific time and place as designated in Psalm 139…. as that is the place,  that answers so many of our questions regarding why we are here.

“In other words the whole nine yards!”
