“Thought…YOU…MIGHT…”

img065

Look..what I just found in an old box???

Sure is good that “GRANDMAS”  save the  most precious stuff …that they receive in the  “First Class Mail”  – — – I have to say that ..that way…because you did  put too MUCH money in stamps…in the   amount  of  POSTAGE…that you sooooo nicely put on the envelope!

It is the    “pits”   – – when you are an old “tight wad”  like me…because I just hate to see too much  being wasted – – when it is not necessary.  Guess that is because …when I was a very young girl…growing up during the  WWII…and everyone had to learn to do without…make due with what ever you could come up with…or even better yet…just learn to do without…since we have to give everything to the WAR effort – – If you were a good AMERICAN…and wanted AMERICA to WIN!

Well…let’s see if … any one of  you…can guess the  OCCASION     ..maybe even the DATE?  For extra credit can anyone remember the address…that   this cad was  SENT TO… and for even more “brownie points”  what is and or names in  the  RETURN TO SENDER ADDRESS???

And…for the  “SIXTY-FOUR THOUSAND  of SOMETHING   $$$$$$$$   QUESTION” was there something… if anything… written on the back of the envelope…and if there was… something written…would anyone be able to come up with “total recall”…what would you  say…even a good guess???

Well…that question just might wipe out the BANK of STUFF… BUT…since there is plenty of STUFF here…and you can have your pick…and  you can share…since …we can all… laugh  and  just so everyone knows…”LAUGHTER  is BEST…MEDICINE!”

“Annie Brady and younger brother Ed”

img064

This  PHOTO…is at least 100 years old…

Let me know… if you remember some of what I  also remember… Annie  and her sister-in-law “Gertie Brady” – – seem to me, to be two  older gals…that just had a way to keep you in  “stitches”  with some of the silly things that they could come up with – – they just knew how to keep you interested  as they were in business in the heart of St.Louis and were able to make more money with helping you,  when you really needed a helping hand and  they did a lot to help  you and others that were in trouble  with the LAW!

They had a small place of business… just a couple of blocks north of the Saint Louis Post Office and west of the City Court buildings. This was a very convenient place of business for those  – – who had  a day in Court and had to  NOW come up with someone who would post BOND… or they would end up sitting  in Jail.

In addition they were Property Owners… lots of properties that needed to be taken care of… needing a “Handyman” – – to do all kinds of fixing up and someone to do some cleaning.

Well, my Father aka “Jack of all Trades – Master of NONE”  was one of the people that they hired … and I would sometimes be brought along as a helper, to the job site. I was the “Go For Person” when I was not vacuuming the floors, dusting and generally cleaning up some dirty mess.

As a young “tag-along”  worker, you get to see and hear a lot about how they conduct their business  and it does help you as you are getting older – it is good to have an idea or two – of things you can do and also – if you play your cards correctly – you will have a little change in your pocket!

“This is TOM’s DAY…Happy Birthday!”

Tom & Shane 001

This PHOTO…is… TOM ALDRICH – – he is here with his  “WAR DOG SHANE” – – and …if ever I saw a PHOTO of someone…and immediately  could see…that this PHOTO…tells the viewer in an instant… the whole story about the person.

If one can determine as early as possible in their LIFE…what they like…seek it in books  and whatever it takes to understand…what is needed to pursue the DREAM …that they have  selected, for  them   selves to follow on this temporary journey …to be sure that when all  is  said…and done…that they have accomplished that …perfect  DREAM…to fulfillment!

When TOM was very young…he was always curled up with a book…evidently books had what he was looking for. He studied all about “Angel Fish”  and “Betta Fish” – – had several tanks ,  kept records of everything they did, what they ate and the  breeding …so that he would have the perfect fish to enter into contests.

The Fish were easy to start out with…but as he got older… he wanted to know all about the dogs that he wanted for his own and to train. The dogs were his LIFE…always having them and the  training of dogs for others.  Another thing that he studied… was Soldiers from the   different   periods  of time.  He could make them …small and miniature in size…paint them  perfectly in all their  specific  detail and made  large display boards…complete with the terrain   that of the Country and Nationality  and  for  the  particular years…that they worn the uniform of  the ranks for the correct position…that they were on his completed display boards to be in the perfect position …  either in WAR and in PEACE time.

“Happy Birthday … Thomas H. Aldrich”

“Tom’s Daughter, Chris’s – 5th BIRTHDAY”

img063

We are celebrating little Chris’s   5th BIRTHDAY…the candles are burning…but…MOM   has to get enough  “PHOTOS”  – – before CHRIS gets the big “OKAY” to start blowing!

Looks like we are singing…and singing…enough times that CHRIS is getting a kick out of how… Uncle Al is singing…with a few  words and notes…especially added – – just so that we all get into… the BIRTHDAY   PARTY   rhythm… as we have to have some  HAPPY and FUNNY stuff  going on- – because a BIRTHDAY PARTY always needs   FUN and GAMES – – and that is   WHY  you invite  GRANDMAS and FAMILIES !

Tom has said that he always remembered all the  parties that we had when we lived in Florida…as each of the boys’ had a big party with their friends and lots of games…so that each of the invited friends would go home with something special in addition  to the FUN that they enjoyed..as we were always interested in making  memories that will last forever.

Just thinking back to those days…some of my boys …would always let me know a couple of weeks before their BIRTHDAY…that he would have a few friends…that wanted to know…that they were “for sure”  to be invited??? I’m guessing  that the reason was …that  my husband  Lee and I were always involved in the School and Scout   activities  …and with having the restaurants – – because some of the things we did …included lots of good food!

Looks like CHRIS has a beautiful  CAKE…and I know there will be ICE CREAM…as everyone knows …be sure you have ICE CREAM…just for me…and you will have made  my day!

“Happy BIRTHDAY…CHRIS!”

“Happy Birthday…Tommy…”

img062

Tommy Aldrich…sitting in the center,  dressed in all black…is about to have his BIRTHDAY – – -just after our move to FLORIDA!

Sitting  left and pointing to Donald Aldrich is uncle,  Al Aldrich – – who is  brother to my husband Lee Sr.,  – –   Lee is taking this picture, so I decided to crowd in…holding  little Lee, Jr.,  in my left arm…and leaning in toward Tommy and Aunt Thelma – – just so we can have some memory of our get-together.

One of the things that TOMMY wanted  for his BIRTHDAY…was a  DOG as his very own pet.  And…since Al and Thelma have been living in Florida for a while  and wanted us to also move to Florida…to help them … in the Restaurant Business – – well …here we are and this is where Thelma was  of a great help to TOMMY … in finding just the right kind of dog.

Thelma had a real love for DOGS…and knew where to take TOMMY…so that he  could select just the right dog. I can not remember the DOG’s NAME…but as I do remember the DOG must have had some training…as Tommy was able to get the DOG to obey him and do as he was being trained. Tommy’s LOVE for DOGS…lasted all his LIFE…as he enter the ARMY K-9 Corp. – – and even later was always working with DOGS and  helping to train DOGS for those that wanted a good and an  obedient DOG.

Some where in all of  the photos that I have…there is a photo of his DOG and  one of the baby CHICKS that I got for the boys for an EASTER   Surprise one year. It was one of the rarest of  things …that… when I put the food out for the DOG and CHICK…they were able to eat from the same dish…without a fight…and not trying to kill the other. Just one of those amazing things…that you just do not see happen every day.  So we will see… if that PHOTO shows up???

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY…TOM ALDRICH!”

“Some of MY FAVORITE…THINGS!”

img034

“I’m looking through some of… MY Favorite Things… since this will be my FIRST CHRISTMAS…and I heard that some of my FAMILY…were talking about giving  some of their FAVORITE THINGS… to everyone that …they  know – – – and so I thought that …this must be the TIME of the YEAR…that you give FAMILY and FRIENDS – – – some of your very special treasures!”

As… YOU can see… I am bundled up as if we are going to the NORTH POLE …but we do … have to go a short distance to the automobile… and it  is very cold…outside,  so they say – – and my Mother and GRANDMA…feel that it is most important that I do not catch a cold – – – and that is something that I do not know  anything about – – “HOW does a baby catch a cold, anyway??” – – – they do not know…that I am so … very  WARM…that I do not think it is as COLD…as they say???

The CHRISTMAS PARTY…that we are going to…is where I will be meeting some  AUNTS and UNCLES…and I never met them before…at least I do not remember – – – but …I have some of my FAVORITE THINGS…and I want everyone there at the PARTY…to remember me…so by…my giving everyone something of mine…I know that they will have something special…and they will just LOVE the fact that I remembered to give them …something from the bottom of my HEART!

Here we go…I’m ready for lots of FUN…I hear GRANDMA  singing some of her favorite songs… and my GRANDMA feels that everyone needs to have as much FUN…and just be so…full of CHEER…at this time of year…that  all this HAPPINESS…  that we are having…makes the best of   MEMORIES…  for all of us…forever!
