Stand by Me is a 1986 American coming of age drama comedy film directed by Rob Reiner.

Based on the novella The Body by Stephen King, the title is derived from the Ben E. King song of the same name, which plays over the end credits.

The films tells the story of four boys who go on a hike across the countryside to find the missing body of a dead kid.

Parts of the film were shot in Brownsville, Oregon, which stood in for the fictional town of Castle Rock.

Scenes that include the mailbox baseball and the junkyard scenes were filmed in Veneta, Oregon.

The junkyard is still in operation.

The campout/standing-guard scene was filmed in Eugene, Oregon, just a few miles from Veneta.

The general store is in Franklin, Oregon, just north of Veneta.

Scenes along the railroad tracks were shot near Cottage Grove, Oregon, along the right-of-way of the Oregon, Pacific and Eastern Railway, now used as the Row River National Recreation Trail.

The scene where the boys outrace a locomotive across a trestle was filmed at Lake Britton on the McCloud River Railroad, near McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, California.

(Lyrics:)

You know I can be found,

sitting home all alone,

If you can’t come around

at least please telephone

Don’t be cruel to a heart that’s true.

Baby, if I made you mad for something I might have said, Please, let’s forget the past, the future looks bright ahead, Don’t be cruel to a heart that’s true. I don’t want no other love, Baby it’s just you I’m thinking of.

Don’t stop thinking of me, don’t make me feel this way, Come on over here and love me, you know what I want you to say. Don’t be cruel to a heart that’s true. Why should we be apart? I really love you baby, cross my heart.

Let’s walk up to the preacher and let us say I do, Then you’ll know you’ll have me, and I’ll know that I’ll have you, Don’t be cruel to a heart that’s true. I don’t want no other love, Baby it’s just you I’m thinking of.

Don’t be cruel to a heart that’s true. Don’t be cruel to a heart that’s true. I don’t want no other love, Baby it’s just you I’m thinking of.

My God, this makes me sad for the old days when there was still shared pride and joy in American politics and not just division and anger.

I was in platoon 1045, Ssgt Andrew’s was my Senior Drill Instuctor. We got to hear him give a speech, it was a good one.
I found out later than no President had ever visited PI to see Marines on graduation day.
Now I realize it was an honor for us for President Reagan to be there. Bryant is my name, number 5. Semper Fi.

“NATIONAL LOVE IS KIND DAY”

NATIONAL LOVE IS KIND DAY – July 27

Just as on July 4th Americans celebrate their independence, so is July 27th to be celebrated—a day to celebrate independence from the abuser. July 27th, National Love is Kind Day is the day to:

  • Celebrate for all victims of domestic violence/domestic abuse their FREEDOM and INDEPENDENCE from their abuser.
  • Recognize our right to be treated with KINDNESS. Because real love is kind, not terrorizing.
  • Realize that kindness is the path to healthy and safer relationships, families, society, and the world.
  • Give voice for and hope and support to others who are still suffering, often in silence.
  • Spread messages how we can be kind to one another, especially to those closest to us.
  • Remember that love is not abusive, violent, demeaning or dehumanizing.  If someone uses love as an excuse for their hurtful behavior, it’s not real love.

With every generation, the cycle of abuse continues to cripple families, especially women and children who are most vulnerable. The cycle of abuse must stop now.

National Love is Kind Day encourages you to become aware of how you are treating people, how people are treating you, and how you can become emboldened, supported, and empowered to lead the joyful and productive life you deserve. With improved and proper support, families can know and experience the freedom and love found in an abuse-free home. Children grow up with positive role models, and both adults and children lead more productive, happy, and mentally healthy lives.

The day is an opportunity to say “No to abuse, violence, and ridicule! And begin saying, “Yes, to kindness!  And yes, to sharing my voice! Yes, I am worth it and my life matters. Kindness rules!”

Stop the cycle of abuse and make a difference to create a kinder world.

HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalLoveIsKindDay

They are many ways to celebrate this day and join the Love is Kind Movement!

  • Expect to be treated with kindness. Repeat the mantra “I deserve to be treated with kindness.” Repeat it especially if you’ve ever been abused, bullied, or sexually harassed or assaulted.
  • Exchange negative actions and words for positive ones for the day. For example, replace hitting with a walk, yelling with deep breathing, and insults with kind gestures and words. An example is “let me understand.” Being kind to others starts with being kind to yourself. It also means setting healthy boundaries.
  • Celebrate with Domestic Violence survivors their freedom from abuse! If you or someone you know left an unhealthy relationship, this is YOUR independence day. Celebrate your freedom from abuse/domestic violence. While you’re celebrating, post on Social Media your freedom story and tag #TheLoveisKindMovement Post. Share, like and celebrate the Love Is Kind Facebook Page where you can also share your stories and celebrate.
  • Share on social media examples of how you are kind to those closest to you. Use hashtags: #LoveisKindDay #LoveisKind #LoveisKindNotTerrorizing
  • Believe in and direct domestic violence victims who reach out to you to DV centers nearest them.

Other ways to take part in the day include:

  • Get your FREE beautiful copy of the Love is Kind Pledge (Poem).
  • Join, post, and share the National Love is Kind Day EVENT on Facebook.
  • Get your Love is KIND T-shirt, hats and other gifts HERE.
  • 100% of the proceeds go to the Love is KIND Fund to support women and children victims and survivors of domestic violence, abuse, narcissistic abuse, controlling and toxic relationships.

“TORVILL & DEAN – BOLERO – 1984”

TORVILL & DEAN – BOLERO – 1984 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

(inc Medals & Anthem)

Here are the magnificent Torvill & Dean performing their iconic Bolero routine for the very last time in an amateur competition, at the World Figure Skating Championships in Ottawa, Canada in March 1984.

Sorry the quality isn’t great but it’s the best I have.

I just copied it from one of my old VHS tapes of various stuff I recorded from the TV in the 1980’s.

Torvill & Dean actually scored an extra 6 for this performance than they did at the Olympics, which was a new record.

The clip also shows them receiving their medals and them standing for the national anthem at the end.

As always I don’t claim any copyright whatsoever for this clip.

If anyone involved in it isn’t happy with my uploading it please let me know and I will remove it.

(Just want to share the Torvill & Dean love for fellow fans to enjoy. 🙂

35+ years later it is still an unbeatable performance
That was remarkable, didn’t feel like a competition at all. It’s like watching a courtship happening.
Torvill and Dean did for ice dancing in the 1980’s what The Beatles did for popular music in the 1960’s.
2021 I had same reaction as 1984. I cried at the beauty of such a perfect ballet on ice, skated to one of the most beautiful compositions ever written.

Their performance is still iconic. Notice what this also has over performances today? No commentator talking while they performed. I’ve contacted the stations to ask that no one speak during a performance but they ignore it. They need to watch this and see how much better it is, how superior an experience, without announcers yattering throughout.

“A 1968 Olympic Champion in Ladies’ singles”

Peggy Fleming
American former figure skater
February 10, 1968: Figure Skater Peggy Fleming Won Gold at the Olympic Winter Games - Lifetime
Peggy Gale Fleming is an American former figure skater and the only American in the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France to bring home a Gold Medal.
She is the 1968 Olympic Champion in Ladies’ singles and a three-time World Champion.

Stamp › Peggy Fleming (*1948), USA

Who Is Peggy Fleming?

Peggy Fleming started figure skating at age 9. Soon the hobby blossomed into an amateur career and Fleming won several accolades for the sport, including U.S. titles and world championships. She then participated in the 1968 Olympics, where she won the only gold medal for the United States.

Thirty years later, Fleming was diagnosed with breast cancer. After going through surgery and chemotherapy, she successfully conquered her cancer.

Early Life

Peggy Gale Fleming was born on July 27, 1948, in San Jose, California. She began skating at age 9, and her family made several sacrifices to support the young athlete’s amateur career. When she was 12, her coach was among those killed when a plane carrying the United States figure skating team crashed in Belgium.

With her new coach — the lithe, elegant skater Carlo Fassi — Fleming went on to win five U.S. titles and three world championships.

1968 Olympics

In 1968, Fleming won gold at the 1968 Olympics in Grenoble, France. Her gold medal  was the only one achieved by the U.S. that year. The victory was also particularly sweet because it signaled a resurgence in U.S. figure skating following the 1961 airplane tragedy.

After winning her Olympic gold, Fleming starred in several television specials, including Fantasy IslandThe Magic of David Copperfield VII: Familares and Nutcracker on Ice, and performed in countless skating shows across the U.S. She was also a popular commentator for ABC Sports, often working… with fellow Olympic champ Dick Button.

The music is Rumanian Rhapsody which he did skate to although whether it was this particular part,    I have no idea.

Battling Breast Cancer

In 1998, Fleming was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had surgery to remove a malignant tumor on the 30th anniversary of her famous Olympic win. After completing radiation therapy, Fleming was cancer-free.

She shared her battle with breast cancer with the public, appearing on such television shows such as The Rosie O’Donnell Show. Since her diagnosis, Fleming has been a tireless champion for health-related causes.

Personal Life

Fleming and her husband, Greg Jenkins, have two sons, Andy and Todd, and multiple grandchildren.
